Now showing the OSC Top 100!

Slogans are one of the truly fun parts of threadless, even though it lacks some functionality. One big baddy is the absence of a comment function but sloganeers have found ways around that by building up communities. If you love slogans and you have a feeling that your precious words are not really appreciated by the slobbering masses then hop on over to a brighter place: Official Slogan Club.

Of course word loving natures may also like numbers, so I have set up a simple Slogan Statistics page which can cough up a quick sum up of what the OSC member have up and running. Just hop on over:

Try not to stress the server too much, it is a cheap one. Comments are welcome.

If there is a bum slogan competition creating worlds most non-amusing, zero-thoughtful and anti-fluent slogan, would it be fun again if printed on a shirt?

@rbthatcher: And I do like all of your top 5! Thanks for posting a pic, someday it might be great to look at it... like... woah, those were the days...

A tiny news flash!

Once again there has been a teensy-weensy little update to my Slogan Statistics Page! This time it's for those who are just too amazing to compare with the general crowd.

Behold the All Time Winning Slogans statistics, coming to your screen now in the same dull Grey as all the rest.

Up and up we go!

Dull Grey was great but still became a thing of the past with the layout now shamelessly copying two colors used by threadless.

And as if the world wasn't 100% about packaging, I also put in a world's first: The MSQ (Mystic Sloganeering Quotient).
it was heavily inspired by davidfromdallas saying: "This pins me against both Bio and Lar - i love it!" Of course this clearly showed that something was not right. Universal love cannot be. Now, comparing the MSQ, davidfromdallas loses against Larlar. Errrr. No. What happens is just that now I somehow throw the amount of votes and the number of slogans into the mix to get a better picture of real greatness. Enjoy.

Cool beans. Is there any way you could do a list of the top 25 or 50 slogans? I'd like to see what else is highest that has yet to be printed.

Also, how is MSQ calculated?

@Maltzmania: Thanks for trying awesomeness right here in this blog. History might have been made/written/whatever.

@FA: Thanks! My latest slogans are certainly way better then my old stuff. I will try to go on folding my brain like Damascus steel, maybe some day my thoughts will be as sharp as a soft muffin.

@juliejeremiah: You mean the 25 or 50 top slogans of a single person or the top slogans of the whole community?

colorfool
colorfool on Feb 05 '09 at 2:44am
Oh, and since juliejeremiah asked: The MSQ is of course supposed to be Mystic. The basics right now are roughly like this:

MSQ =
average_ratings
* (1 - (n1 / average_votes))
* (1 - (n2 / slogan_count))

n1 & n2 can be changed to adjust the influence of average number of votes and number of slogans. The last two lines of the formula will always result in something between 0 and 1, so the MSQ will always be in a range from 0 to 100.
This formula is likely to change in future versions so it will soon become mystic again ; ) New versions will for example include the variance.

colorfool on Feb 05 '09 at 2:48am
@ivejustquitsmoking: I just let it run with your name, it works... are you maybe using a very old browser? Or did you deactivate JavaScript? Your MSQ is 16.6, btw... mainly caused by the fact that you seem to never delete the non-performers.

Colorfool, I'm continually fascinated by this project and the amount of options you have and are going to add in the future to it. Really exciting project that I think will have a permanent place at the top of the Official Slogan Club come next week as a major incentive to also join the club! Great work man, I've gotta give you some STP's for this gift to the slogan world.

Also, I'm not going to do it because i think 40 percent or higher is a decent slogan score, but if i eliminated everything under 50 percent wouldn't my MSQ shoot through the roof?
colorfool
colorfool on Feb 05 '09 at 4:20am
Sounds FRICKINAWESOME! Thank you for this very welcome support!

Deleting bum slogans will raise your MSQ.

The closer the deleted slogan's rating gets to your average, the smaller the effect. And since the amount of slogans goes into the rating, too, deleting a slogan with a rating very close to your average might actually lower your MSQ. This depends on the values used for n1 and n2 in the formula above.

I wouldn't want to kill any 40+ scoring slogans, either... history has shown that ratings are not everything when it comes to being printed.

@juliejeremiah: That's a bit of a longterm plan because right now my script does everything life. Making a list like that requires reading all sslogans of all members, which would take too long. Anyways, the future will sure bring this feature along with some other little tid-bits I have in mind.

@Wheelie Weird: Friends of my hat are also my friends. I gave you some votes!

@vinnylo: Even though you didn't mention my hat, I take it for granted that you liked it just as much... so I voted on some of your slogans, too.
