I'm guessing Tim's is older, but that is odd that it's word for word and it didn't get blocked. But be a punctuation thing.

I think his was probably first

Yeah, so I guess I'm just nit-picking here.

Since Tim's was older he deserves it for sure.
PuppetMeat
PuppetMeat on Oct 17 '09 at 11:56pm
The odd thing is that the slogans are different. Tim's was first but they used your phrasing.
SuperRyan
SuperRyan on Oct 17 '09 at 11:56pm
my idea:

They picked Tim's, reworded it, and this is a coincidence. A really weird and oddly exact coincidence.

Don't feel bad or guilty for bringing it up - it's understandable how you must feel about seeing it!
Chengui

It's kinda buggy though....I guess I would think of it like your is so close to his that I wouldn't have submitted it with different wording.

Also - it's become clear to me that Threadless does not always stick to the actual slogan subs word for word. I know they're told other designers it's okay to change the wording slightly.

Yeah, they change things from time to time. But like Ryan said, it's kind of amazingly ironic that they changed the wording to a slogan that already existed, lol

Yeah, says it in the terms:

If your Slogan is selected, TypeTees.com may use your Slogan in any manner on or in connection with Clothing, including but not limited to: reproducing the Slogan on Clothing, selling Clothing bearing the Slogan, changing the Slogan by reworking the Slogan or making word changes or additions, making derivative works of the Slogan, using the Slogan on the TypeTees.com website and on promotional material for TypeTees.com, and/or registering the Slogan with the US Copyright Office in the name of SkinnyCorp LLC as the Claimant, and you as the Author. I'm a big fan of both of you fellas but it seems obvious that Tim's has been up much longer judging by the vote counts. Rewording slogans isn't new to Threadless as they've done it in the past. This is most likely pure coincidence. Sucks, I know.

They're another theory: Threadless hates you to the core, jshepp. Sorry, them's the breaks, you were one shirt away from getting off their pure unfettered hate list during the last sale but you fell just short. Dang.

Also, this does indeed suck. Sorry man, you were probably all "um, what's my slogan doing on a shirt without someone telling me they were gonna print it and with someone else's name as the slogan creator?" I agree with the peeps above, they picked his as it's the older one, then changed the wording a bit, turning it into yours. Tim at least owes you a tee now or something!

You'll get yours regardless duder, it's just a matter of time.

Hey thanks soloyo. You got some great slogans. Have you ever given thought in joining the Official Slogan Club? It's a great bunch of folks where all we talk about are Star Wars, tomato juice, rugby, and occasionally slogans.

this thing is fairly common, small changes to steal a good slogan. Threadless knows their stuff though, and none of those will ever get printed.

So, I do really strive hard to make sure that none of my slogans are rip offs or anything of that sort. When threadless contacted me about the print, I went and did a search to verify that this was not printed elsewhere due to the Inertia slogan mishap. I found your slogan and informed Threadless about what I discovered. That your slogan was the exact wording they were going to print.

After a few emails back and forth, they told me that they were going to go ahead with mine. The reason being that my slogan was subbed first. Based off our 365 slogan blogs, my slogan was submitted March 10, and your slogan was submitted July 16.

They changed my slogan wording to correct the grammar issue, that I went from single to plural.

Sorry how it all worked out.

have you told Threadless?

That really sucks... and not to say Tim wasn't right to receive the money, because Threadless did CHOOSE him, but then i see your point too. Maybe Threadless does hate you! Or maybe it was an honest mistake?

Oh how upsetting and annoying and - lets go eat cake!!
FRICKINAWESOME
   FRICKINAWESOME on Oct 18 '09 at 8:18pm
Uh, Evan, we already explained the deal. Tim's slogan was first, was selected, the slogan was changed a bit to correct the grammar and it turned into jshepp's slogan who I'm sure came up with the slogan completely separate from Tim's. If Tim's slightly differently-worded slogan was submitted later than jshepp's, then I'd call foul. But since Tim's was first by a couple months, I think Threadless made the right call. Although I'd love to see this corrected by giving one of jshepp's dozens of tee-worthy slogans a day in the t-shirted sun!
jshepp
jshepp on Oct 18 '09 at 11:15pm
Yeah, thanks guys for understanding where I'm coming from. Personally, I don't care about the money. Tim rightfully deserves it (he was picked after-all). It was just a bad break for me. I'm probably going to buy that snazzy new tee anyways. The artwork is awesome too by V&V.

Greenttentacle, no, I don't not plan on telling Threadless, because as far as I am aware they are already aware of the situation by Tim.

And, I appreciate it Tim that you made the effort to check. You're a really great guy, and you have great slogans as well.
