...the gimmicks used to be to carry around a gas can. say their wife and kids were waiting in the car for them, and they needed money for gas...or sometimes a sparkplug.

a few months ago saw some black hobos singing and dancing to old slave songs for rich old white tourists, and i thought that was pretty sad...
you have to remember this is savannah ga...plantation city.

but lately, before they even give you their full on gimmick, they come out to you shouting "i'm a christian, I'm a christian" like it's supposed to put you at ease or something.

my first thought is, yeah like i want to be stopped by a zealous christian hobo.
my second meaner thought is then 'a christian, really, well how's that worked out for you?'

but then this one today -after the christian opener- proceeded to tell me he was an opera singer, and was offering me three songs and i could pick one, he'd sing it.

times like that i wish i had a cell phone with video. but i was too busy running to the bank to deposit my check that i get from singing and dancing for my bosses.

hmm. ironic.
dont'cha think?

I would've made him sing the song and then told him that it wasn't worth it to me to pay him cause he did a horrible job.

you should have had him sing it for you while you waited in line at the bank

also, some of those ideas are pretty smart

I tend to give for a few I've met who offer to give directions or tell me about local places I don't really know about. It's cheaper then a GPS

oh man one time me and some buddies were bar hopping and one of my friends throw up in the bar so they were going to kick us out, so another guy in our group paid a bum to watch our friend. We partied for a couple more hours then came out and the two of them had their arms around each other and were singing "Lean On Me" to passers by for change. The bum was like "man take this white boy, he sings like shit and I can't make no bread!"

I had a bum one time tell me that he'd lent me five bucks a while ago, and he needed it back now.

Southern homeless folk are SO RAD.

I miss my homeless Birmin'ham friends..let's see, there was Detroit, who would sweep out our independent punk rock venue after shows. I Ain't Crazy would come up to you and to put you at ease, like your hobo Christians, would shout "I ain't crazy!".

OH! OH! Megastar had huge dreads and was real burly. He'd ride around on a bike and wore leotards and claimed to be an ex professional wrasssler.

no names for mine, sorry.
although there is one guy named twicthy. i guess.
he's a tall thin white dude- good looking, but kinda like rasputin. even wears a russian hat sometimes.
stinks like bejeezus and has a nervous hand habit. otherwise gives off this sad aire of genius that lost it.
he never bugs people for money. he had a bum lady friend for a while.
there's also a legless guy. i had no problem giving him money. i don't imagine there are many places hiring legless guys.
then one day i saw him get into his nice big new red truck at the end of his panhandling shift.
...so i don't pay him anymore.

I think there will be a few different subs in the top 20 once all the loves threadless have finsihed scoring. Travis has to be up there somewhere, his last few subs have lifted the bar on here--------

I don't know if anyone else who's been hanging around threadless for far too long (like myself) gets really excited when under-printed designers put out a sure thing - but I know I do. I feel the same way about this as when I first saw "No Peeking" by Jublin. That "THIS is a print and it couldn't happen to a better person."
Enjoy your...uh...12 pack of Red Bull.
