On some level you have to be pre-prepared (I guess an extra emphasis on the "pre" part there) that sometimes people simply slip into, and out of, your life. Being here in DC, it is a very transient culture. I've only lived here 3 years and have already had some of my best friends move. You have to have a bit of a zen attitude about the whole thing. Hatred and attachment lead to suffering.

Just the hate that leads to suffering, it is. Hmmmmmm.

And I agree with Amy/Yoda. It's hard to deal with losing a close friend. Very hard. I dealt with it two years ago and had to learn how to cope with it for the good majority of that year. Having said that, what I learned from my experience is that having an outlet to speak about it, other friends and family to be around, and things to keep you occupied are very good things. And don't occupy yourself with the intent to forget, just occupy yourself with no intention at all. Go do. Any effort to forget will just make you remember. And not that forgetting is a good thing either. Learn. If you feel you need closure and the other party doesn't want to provide it for you, you'll just have to move on.

Just know that stuff like this can kill you inside. Don't let it. It really blows.

I know that because all my pets died I don't get attached to things/people easily anymore. I don't want them to die on me and such.
