Ladyhawke did a Fench version of Paris is Burning

I think she wrote it when visiting the French singer Soko, who has had hits in English but maybe did some French ones too.

I don't think Soko has done French recordings, in fact she sings one of the only English songs on Nouvelle Vague's album "Couleur Sur Paris" but that album and their album "The Singers" has lots of fench singers/songs on it.

Nina Simone sang this one:

It has been done by Edith Piaf as well and was originally recorded by Jacques Brel who was Belgian but Francophone (despite being of Flemish descent.)

This one should really interest you if you don't know him already. Nigerian-born French singer Féfé.

And even though she's almost as naff as Celine Dion, I can't not mention Tina Arena because she got her start on this TV show called Young Talent Time 30 years ago and it just started up on TV again and she'll be a judge and I was half watching it while posting the first few videos here. Anyway, she went to France and became ridiculously popular and just got whatever the equivalent of knighted is over there. She also self-invited herself to sing Advance Australia Fair when Cadel Evans won the Tour de France.

I just heard something extraordinary on the radio: a French blues duo called Mountain Men, singing Jacques Brel's Les Marquises. Unbelievable, no less.
Not found on Youtube unfortunately, but there is this video of another Brel song, Ces gens la:

(crappy recording, 1st half of song is cut etc)
They seem to sing mostly in English though, short samples on their website.

Brel's original Les Marquises:

Shoot. There are a lot of videos in here. You'll have to give me some time to get through them. :)

And no, I don't know of Féfé but thanks, I'm really enjoying him.

I'm re-learning Aaron and something I've learned over the years that listening to music in the language you're trying to learn, as well as printing off lyrics and translating them, is a really good way to learn.

Much like a bell on a cat to warn birds of forthcoming danger, I shall ring a bell for you every time I am about to make a joke, Mya.

Mya Jamila you're all complex and weird and crap, so I think you would be like a ground hog. Those things are so fucking weird and complex, and everyone's like "look at that groundhog, that groundhog is so complex and interesting". People would write blogs and childrens books about you, you'd be so popular that there would be a day named after you. This day is called "Saturday", and every "Saturday" everyone would go to your little groundhog pad, and throw carrots and potatos and beans down the hole and you'd eat until you shat turds the size of gumballs (which is pretty huge considering you're no bigger than a King Size Snickers Bar). But yeah, you also have incredible weather predicting skills.

Mya Jamila you would probably be in a thought provoking and easy to understand childrens cartoon movie. It would be called The Land Before Time VIII: Ice Age 3: Jurraissic Park Jr. you would play a new character introduced to the series, Daisyloaf. You would be a young velociraptor on the prowl and independant, but thenyou meet Little Foot and the Gang and you understand the power of friendship and you forge a bond after realizing you need each other to survive or something. Also, raptors have hands, and all of those animals are pretty retarded in that they do not have hands, so you're pretty much the best dinosaur.

Thanks Haya!
