I have a feeling I'll never hear from this guy again, of his own volition.

"... I quite enjoyed our evening out. I've been rude in not contacting you and for that I apologize. I work Thursday - Sunday now and have to be up at 5am and I need lots of sleep, so I pretty much stay in those days and on my days off I have been catching up with close friends and family. The rest of this month will see me on the island for all my days off catching up with family there too. It seems I have entered a period where I have to turn my focus to me and family, leaving time for little else. I need to do this for me; but please be clear that my not calling you is not because you did or said anything wrong! :-)...
Good evening Mya, and take care!
*name*"

"Take care" is such a final, closed if you will, closer to a note. And I have a theory that if someone is actually interested in hanging out with you they'll suggest a better time, or let you know when they'll be in contact or when you can be in contact with them.

Yeah... That's pretty clear... He even follows up with a "it's not you, it's me."

But at least he got back to you and didn't just leave you wondering. Sucks though. Sorry. :(

Why does he type so faux professionally?

To afford as much emotional distance as possible from what he is writing to cover for the embarrassing, squirmy, and convoluted nature of his excuse, which is written in a very passive style: "The rest of this month will see me on the island" and "It seems I have entered a period..." not for certain, mind you, but it seems he has entered a period where he has to focus his attention on family.

I wish I could bust out that island excuse sometime. It's so perfectly vague and mysterious sounding.
Mya Jamila

"The Island" refers to Vancouver Island. What's ridiculous is that he would spend all of his days off there, all three in a row per week. It costs a fair amount of money to go over by car (making it stupid to drive over just for three days, and then do it again the next week, and the next, and the next) and, if I remember correctly, his father lives further up island so though it would be pretty easy to get to the terminal from his place by public transit, so he could just "walk on", it would require a drive for someone to pick him up.

You're looking at $50 for your vehicle + $15 for yourself as an adult for each trip you make (so double that to go there, and back).

My dad's old high school buddy lives on "The Island." When he sank his boat there, he came to live with us and other friends for several months. I woke up one morning to find him passed out on our living room floor with snow on the TV, Playstation 2 remote in hand and so many roaches in an ash tray.

This has nothing to do with your predicament but it's one of the funniest moments I've experienced. Ahh...Canadians. (he's not really Canadian, he just fled there to avoid 'Nam)

I thought he was being jokey and said island as in desert island or a tropical island.

Well, at least he's making it obvious what his intentions are and you can just get on with it. You'll find a new fella in no time.

Harsh. But at least you get a pretty solid (albeit pussy-footed) message, and know not to bother waiting around harping on this guy. Move on to greener pastures.

Also, Hi.

For sure Annie. But, I hate half assed wimpy ways of saying, "I don't really want to hang out with you in the future.". But, when you don't actually understand what the person is saying (I received the message on Wednesday and I only just started to understand today [thanks to you guys]), it defeats the point of saying it like that. If it doesn't get the point across clearly, it's not doing it's job.

wimp = wimpy response

Mya Jamila + Real Man = Real Big O's

Mya Jamila + Right Man = Lots Of $ and Really Big O's

There will always be more guys but he wasn't a guy I was interested in as someone to date/sleep with. If we had, it would have been fine but, first and foremost I'd found a dance partner. :(

We both jive so, neither of had to learn new steps. He danced really well, he kept his hands where they should be and I could stomach his presence off the dance floor. He taught me a variation on jive that I didn't know, and I was going to teach him to jump jive. :(

@Mya Jamila: sorry that you lost a decent dance partner, but wouldn't you rather have your favorite bestest dance partner also be your lover?! that's like awesome if you ask me, you could have Really Big O's while dancing, which is pretty much dry humping, and you could have Really Big O's anywhere and everywhere else! just start shooting for Really Big O's and life will come together for you...see what i did there...

Mya Jamila you're all complex and weird and crap, so I think you would be like a ground hog. Those things are so fucking weird and complex, and everyone's like "look at that groundhog, that groundhog is so complex and interesting". People would write blogs and childrens books about you, you'd be so popular that there would be a day named after you. This day is called "Saturday", and every "Saturday" everyone would go to your little groundhog pad, and throw carrots and potatos and beans down the hole and you'd eat until you shat turds the size of gumballs (which is pretty huge considering you're no bigger than a King Size Snickers Bar). But yeah, you also have incredible weather predicting skills.

iPear on May 06 '09 at 10:17pm
Mya Jamila you would probably be in a thought provoking and easy to understand childrens cartoon movie. It would be called The Land Before Time VIII: Ice Age 3: Jurraissic Park Jr. you would play a new character introduced to the series, Daisyloaf. You would be a young velociraptor on the prowl and independant, but thenyou meet Little Foot and the Gang and you understand the power of friendship and you forge a bond after realizing you need each other to survive or something. Also, raptors have hands, and all of those animals are pretty retarded in that they do not have hands, so you're pretty much the best dinosaur.

Thanks Haya!
