Man you are talented! An inspiration to me as a graphic design major. oh yeah critiques . . .
I love your one color designs and high detail designs the best. I don't really know if you should loose something, I mean every element has it's own purpose to create that awesome visual pleasure you produce. Sorry I know that's not that great of a critique . . .

I'm not much help either. I enjoy all your stuff.

I do like the oversized one-color designs you do.
Your high-detail designs are second to none, though.

I'd say those 2 styles (of yours) are my faves.

Love your work, especially the high detailed art and your wonderful line work. I think with t-shirt design, the audience needs to "get it" (comprehend or understand the artwork/joke) within a few seconds. I struggle with this dilemma too, and have to remind myself to keep it simple (the KISS rule). But then again sometimes just screw it and just go with the flow and do what makes you happy.

bottleHeD on Oct 11 '11 at 2:13am
I prefer:
Clean lines with Clean colors
One color oversized

On a t-shirt, i don't really prefer overly super-detailed illustrations, because sometime like that works better as a poster or art print.
badbasilisk
   badbasilisk on Oct 11 '11 at 2:15am
good point herky! i think the same - i totally get lost in details and after finishing it is maybe too much to get it quick.

thanks bottlehed!

I'm the same as everyone else - I think all your work is fantastic. That said I think your one colour oversized work is my favourite.

I tend to think people should stick with what they enjoy doing and never pander to the Threadless masses but that's just me. By the time you've diluted your style to the point of what you think TL audiences want your work is quite likely to become a bit generic in the process.

badbasilisk
   badbasilisk on Oct 11 '11 at 2:38am
thanks mat - well - i still do what i want to ...

This one is my favorite of yours:

Just the right amount of detail, and the dark glass of the helmet gives the design a strong focal point amidst all the intricate linework.

It might be an idea to mix your detailed work with some more solid spaces or negative spaces. In all the intricacy, sometimes focus gets al little lost. If you balance it more, it could become stronger, visually. if that makes sense. my english is not the best today.

I like your pencil work, but being able of doing those 1 color oversizes and high detail drawings, I'd concentrate on it.
the first desgines of the page are good, but the others are unique and amazing, and that's not something to waste
badbasilisk
   badbasilisk on Oct 11 '11 at 7:20am
ok - i like 1 color because i am a sucker in coloring ...

... and i really work hard on my lines. but not all of my ideas need this high detail :-/
mirisch
mirisch on Oct 11 '11 at 7:34am
I have to say, that I also love the way you start experimenting with lines and pencil drawings and I love the pencil drawings as well. You have such a big Bandbreite of ways to express. Keep going experimenting. You said that it takes you 4 weeks to finish your detailed artwork and I think I understand that you want to do things that also are finished quicker. But the detailed art could be used for exhibitions too I think so they aren't lost. I love all of your things!!!

Tonteau

It's aaaaall good, but as far as t-shirts go, I think one colour oversiized works best. The surfing comets one is killer.
Tonteau
   Tonteau on Oct 11 '11 at 8:47am
And reading the comments, I agree with esther. Too much detail on a shirt doesn't actually look that great, IMHO. Clean and clear is the message.

Actually, they're all top notch. I think you only have to choose the right style for the concept you work on, which you've been successfully doing.
My personal preference is: one color oversized, and high detail.

I really like st george besides from comet surfer.

They're both one color and rad placements.

And then I also like the style and humor of Butter. Which is different from your other stuff, but also works really well in my opinion.

st george got a wonderfull statistic imo, but is not selected for print - thats why i wondering if i shoud redo it and what should i change?

I'd say badass. Your prints seem to fall into this category so far.
But Threadless likes the fun stuff too, so if you come up with a fun concept, you should def work on it. Wouldn't surprise me if SOS prints.
Musarter
Musarter on Oct 11 '11 at 9:31am
Not sure about St. George, but I agree that certain styles work for certain subjects as Ivejustquit just said..

All your work is really awesome but I also think the one color over sized and the high detail are my favorite styles; these styles are the ones I would be most likely to wear. That said I think the style of Butt-er and the Life-preserver work really well for the subjects too, though I would personally be less likely to wear them.

I know I'm guilty commenting "nice" to many designs but it doesn't mean I like it less compared to when I say "very nice' or "amazing" or 'awesome". Commenting nice is just a quick way of saying I like it because I like to score all the design up for voting and there's so many of them.

Anyway, someone as talented and successful as yourself doesn't have to choose a specific style of drawing. If anything having many styles show versatility and that you're not a one trick pony. Although personally, I am more impressed with your one color oversized and high detail drawings because they are mind-blowing and jawdropping at the same time. Do whatever makes you happy. I'm sure it'll come out "nice" = awesome. :)

You don't need any help. All of the art you have done shows you can pull anything off. I'm a big fan of your work.

I would say Threadless needs more badass shirts because they don't have many of the designs I really like and would wear. I recently considered buying these three shirts: Swedish Bikini Werewolf Destruction Unit, Renaissance Rocks and Hot Chicks On Wolves. Renaissance Rocks was sold out in my size when I ordered and I ended up buying Hot Chicks On Wolves. I really like the Swedish Bikini Werewolf Destruction Unit design, but I decided not to order it yet for one reason. If I wore it in my neighborhood the two chicks kissing each other in the design would get some stares in my Utah neighborhood. I'm trying not to embarrass my wife and kids.

The threadless shirt that get's the most stares when I wear it is Monkey Business. Lot's of guy's stop to tell me they think that shirt is cool when I wear it. That design is badass and I like wearing that one.
