The Living Extinct - Threadless T-shirts, Nude No More

My first submission in a couple of years just finished and did a lot worse than I was expecting it to.
I find it really hard on the boards because like most of the community I just end up feeling like I must have in some way wronged everyone because of how I'm completely ignored.
So I was hoping that some of you could maybe give me a hand and take a look at the design and tell me what you voted and why? Just so I can take something from it for the future.
I don't mind brutal honesty here. Thanks.

ps. apologies for sounding like a whiny little bitch.

Doesn't really make a nice shirt. I think that is why it scored low. The poses are awkward, colors are bad, and it just sorta ends in the background. There is no completion to the design.

Study what gets printed and try and immolate their setups.

thanks.
Immolate means set on fire by the way.

I can agree with you though, the problem is that in the critique process, people were complimenting the things there that you just cited as the reasons it failed...

I voted 2, I remember wishing there was a 2.5 button.
I guess I have a zombie and dino oversaturation. Sometimes the concept or design may have some saving twist, I didn't find one here.
No apologies needed! I'm also wondering why I did so bad.

And I gave Monopoly a 3. Much better design, would have deserved a fix of the concept issue you raised.

the dino looks squished inthe corner when it should have been the focus, the other dudes shouldnt even be in the art or atleats have a smaller presence the the rex

Anyway, the linework and colours used were the worst things

damn spell checker! While I don't think it needs to be set on fire I do think you could emulate what has been printed here. Watch how people present and see how they tell the jokes or the story that they are trying to tell.

I am kinda new here too but I am holding out for a bit to figure out how to go about things. Cheers for making an attempt. You are a bigger man than me.

Colors are awkward, layout doesn't flow, size is too emulating. And you don't need the dudes, the concept is strong with just the dinozombie.

I had missed the crit blog.
Crits suck because it's 95% vote bitching. Whoever came up with the notion to encourage spamming in crits should immolate themselves. NOW.

I voted 2.
I didn't like the composition - the way the two characters vignette off at the bottom; The horizon line; those colours not working on the blue placement top left; and the stretched placement on the girl bottom right. And the subject matter is a bit grim, and demands darker colours rather than those light ones.

It's drawn really well though, your illustration skills are great. It can get disheartening when you feel the community is neglecting you, when other designs you think worse by more popular designs get loads of comments and votes. Keep at it!

Colours have been mentioned a few times, what is particular wrong with the selection? What would have been a better choice? Also, can you expand what's meant by the linework?

the concept i think is really good. perhaps if you lost the guys and had a couple dinosaurs coming out of the dirt. throw in some kind of background, and i think itd do really well. however what do i know haha.

i gave it a 5 anyway, cause the concept is so good

Just to explain because there was a concept that I think was lost on absolutely everyone.

The idea of the tee was, a Zombie attacking a human, and the human pointing out to the Zombie that he in fact was the one being hunted by a Zombie T-Rex.

I don't want this to become another bitch about the crit process, because I think everyone knows it's really just a 'say something nice about the design then post a link to your own critique' process but the reason I submitted it too early I think was because of the positive feedback, and someone advising me to submit it while it was still fresh. I think I'll definitely try a WIP blog next time.

I got your concept, and I think it needed both the people, but to be portrayed in a different way.

Ok I can definitely see that now to be honest, and the colours?

The things that bother me are proportions, perspective and composition. The guys are way too big if you can't fit their legs on the shirt and their size also makes the dino look smaller. Just make them smaller and less detailed. Also people in pictures shouldn't be facing away from the viewer in general, the back of the head is not very interesting to look at. The line in the background is not necessary, try something else if you want to create a setting. Halftones look bad when scaled down, just cheat in your presentation and use transparencies in their place or pick your colors so that you can use one as a ground shadow. The blood on the dino looks a little rushed, try to make the blood spatters and drips more natural looking.

I think you can draw pretty well and I don't think the colors are bad. The presentation is very crowded though, the light blue template tee is quite unnecessary.

This is some great advice, and I'm looking at my design completely differently now, and looking through other people's eyes I can see I would have scored it much less than I thought it deserved at the time.

What are the main tips and pointers you would give me for the future? especially about colour as a few of you have mentioned it...

Other people probably have other methods and preferences but I usually have a shirt color in mind first and then I start to pick colors for it. I like to use CMYK sliders even though RGB would give a bigger range. I generally use slightly dirty or muted colors, I avoid pure white for example. When using outlines see if something else than black would work.
