how are you getting your swf file? you should go through publish, that creates the smallest file.

It's all in the pixels. You have to tweak the pixels.

I save each slide from photoshop at about a 5 or 6 quality from photoshop. Then when you import the slides, be sure to click on "Compress as a jpg" I believe it says or something very similar to that.

Where are your slide files coming from?

I save each slide separately for web (640x800) as a jpeg and that way you can control how much you compress it and what it looks like. The Flash file contains hardly any data to it, so as long as both your .jpeg files combined are under 250 - you should be golden.

then just import them into your flash library and drop them where you want them. It's WAY easier not having to resize and saves you lots of space. compressing everything from Flash doesn't seem to work too well.

Save For Web... in Photoshop as PNG-8 and lower the color count to 64 or 128

You can try this template.

It should be easier because you will have only 1 JPG file to fiddle with. Save it for web as Medium quality jpg.

In Photoshop use save for web, and save it as a gif (i haven't tried png, because I've found gifs look fine and are about 1/4 the size of jpegs). play around with using less colour - ie. changing from 256 to 128 or 64. sometimes it looks fine, sometimes it looks like crap.

you should also make sure your files are in rgb format in photoshop. i've found that i get the best colour when i go to edit - convert to profile - sRGB before saving for web.

good luck!

I used to save as .png or gif and lower the color count, but I've had better luck with dropping the .jpeg quality in the save for web screen if I'm really hurting for space.

You can also save your images as jpegs and then use the save-as function to try lowering the quality. often you can get the slider down to about 1/2 quality without things looking too different.

If you are saving for web as gif just lower the color count to make the file size smaller.
