Inaccurate Design

I always have to laugh when I see the Big Dipper asterism inaccurately illustrated - even more so in tattoos. It's beneficial for designers to actually do a bit of research into what they're illustrating.

OK, I'll bite. What's wrong with it? I just did some "research" [ie google images] and it looks fine to me.

Incorrect number of stars. Interesting history note, back in ancient days this was a test (usually in admission to armies) to see how clear a recruit's vision still was.



At the very least it would have been nice for the illustration to abide by what is easily seen by the human eye of what appears to be a double star second from the end in the asterism to tie into this fact. Go outside some night and check it out!



If you really wanted to be technical however the "star" is really visually 2 double stars (Mizar A and Mizar B), plus another (Alcor), and by telescope can be seen to be really 5 stars.



It still would have been at least nice for the illustration to be more accurately illustrated as humans visually see it in the night sky, that is, what appears to be a double star.
