I posted this in NomadSlim's blog, but thought I'd post it here too to make it easy to find.

I created a couple Photoshop actions that automate my process for creating halftones.

There are two actions, the first is "quick halftone" that instantly creates a halftone of the current layer using default attributes for the halftone filter. The second, "custom halftone", brings up the dialog box so you can adjust the variables and then provides a stop so you can repeat the filter to modify the look of the halftone before finishing up the action.

Download here.

Unzip and then load the Halftones.atn file by selecting "Load Actions" via the actions palette.

I hope some people find this useful.

**Update

This originally wasn't working on CS versions of PS, as some people noted in the comments that it was getting hung up at the color halftone point. I have PS7 at home so I wasn't able to test it until I got to work today. I just had to reorder a couple actions and now it works (tested with CS3). If you download and try it out, let me know how it works and if you have any issues and what version of PS you are using. Thanks!

Hmmm. I just realised something. I have no idea how to use Actions!

they're easy. basically, just select the action you want to run and click the little play button at the bottom of the palette.

I have PS7, too.

I've been having trouble getting halftones down, so I'm glad you made this!

I'll try it soon. Thanks!

ph33lth3lov3, what version of ps are you using? and what happens when it stops? do you get a pop-up or does it just die?

ok, updated. it apparently was wonky with CS versions of PS. i just modified the actions so they should work now. see my update above and download again if it wasn't working for you before.

i should point out, if you want to adjust the default attributes used for the "Quick Halftone" action to something else, you need to go into the actions palette and double click on the "Color Halftone" action in Quick Halftone and edit it.

Maybe I'm just doing it wrong, but it's still saying 'Command Colour Halftone is not available' even though I've just downloaded the action again.

I deleted the previous version from the Actions folder and replaced it with this new one. Should I do anything else to 'activate' it?

hmm, weird. is it possible that the download was cached and so you actually reloaded the old actions? you shouldn't have to do anything else to activate it.

what version of PS are you running and on what platform (mac/pc)? i tested the new actions on my mac with PS CS3 and they are working fine.
