I think this is pretty awesome, except those look like the plastic swords you get at tourist locations around europe...was that a photo of real swords?

They are plastic swords! Good eye. Do they look cheap? Should I do illustrations instead?

to be perfectly honest, if I didn't know they were plastic, I wouldn't think they are. your call man, they don't look cheap

Here is another update. I totally redid the white lotus leaves. I think it looks much better. I have some rendering left to do, but the structure is there. Thanks for looking!

I don't like the look of the swords. It's a great idea, but I think it would be better with real swords.

i can see what you were trying to do, but i think it doesnt come across very well. the lotus seems very seperate from the swords

I love this quite much man, but I agree the lotus flower could have some texture that keeps it looking more steel-y, as well as maybe a little hint of the place where the swords bend together into a knot to sell the combination of the two objects? Like i said, i still dig it as is very much :)

I guess I kind of botched the execution. Maybe I'll learn metallurgy and make it for real and then photograph it. Or maybe I'll just get on with the collab I'm working on! :)

man i usually hate photoshoped submissions...they almost always look cheap...BUT! yours is fantastic! love the rendering and the whole idea! you got 5'vd buddy!:)

Thanks Nir! I tried to make it look less cheap by actually bending the plastic sword and photographing it. That way I wouldn't have to do as much photoshop work. Here are some samples of those photos. Thanks for looking!

I'm a magazine art director living in Boulder, Colorado. My hometown is Chicago. When I'm not working, I'm freelancing and uploading vectors to Istock. I enjoy running, biking and swimming. I'm an avid consumer of media: Magazines, video games, movies and music. I prefer female singer-songwriters, but I also like everything from Skinny Puppy to Springsteen.
