about Runnin' Rhino
Hooray, "Runnin' Rhino" has been reprinted! I am very excited; thank you by a lot, Threadless!! about On The Plains
I personally, on a superficial level, am not offended by it. I have ordered it and plan to wear it.When I first saw this shirt I decided I would have it eventually, because my immediate thought was that it is a statement against the cowboy-as-American-god-hero archetype that I've despised my whole life, and a subversion of the typical swaggering macho cowboy story where the cowboy impossibly pwns everybody, especially the 'dirty, red, heathen' Native people. All the other blogs I've seen about being upset concerning this shirt have to do with the photo of Threadless models playing "Cowboys And Indians". But a very few of the comments in those blogs have touched on what's bothering me most: Is this shirt racist? But, both figures in the design are starry silhouettes, so their race can't be proven. So...I guess what I mean more accurately is, what if this shirt was of a cowboy's bullet shooting a Native American from his horse? Would it be more or less acceptable? What about the fact that I tend to see the Native American figure as a woman (though I think it's definitely intended to be a man)? I doubt I would ever wear a shirt that I thought portrayed a man potentially killing a woman... (Oh, dear. It feels icky to be faced with your own prejudices, doesn't it?) Anyway, since nobody's posted a blog like this yet, I'm guessing it hasn't really bothered anybody else, but, in case there is somebody in the 'sphere...I've read a lot of really insightful opinions on Threadless and I'd like somebody to bring some of that to his forum... So, summation: Does anybody else have any uncomfortable or potentially uncomfortable thoughts on/reactions to this design, and/or the idea/act of wearing it in public, or just on their body at all? about Pulsars And Dying Stars
This needs to be reprinted. So I can buy two. One for me and one for my friend who introduced me to Joy Division. It would be even cooler if 'they' could somehow get it to say, "Love Tears Us Apart". That'd definitely be a second run, then. They wouldn't have the change the colour. I love the white on black the way it is. It's fine the way it is. I desire this t-shirt with an acute acuity. REPRINT please!!! about Runnin' Rhino
This design is just so goddamn cute. I love the various interpretations of it that can be made and I'm sorry I've missed all the runs before. REPRINTAGE PLEASE!!! (Is there anything else I can do to make it happen?)
I think this is the shirt I missed out on getting "Hairwolves" for. I wish now that I would have just got both, but, at least I have this one.
As of this writing, the only size left of "It's Always Midnight Somewhere" are a few "Girly Extra-Smalls", which is the size I have. This XS fits more loosely than my "Afternoon Delight" XS. Go figure. As for washing this, I either do it by hand in lukewarm water, or with a machine, inside-out on the gentle cycle or with a ton of other clothes, in cold water, and hang-dry it right-side out. There has been a tiny bit of shrinkage and fade, but it's really so minor that I think I only noticed because I was looking for it. I highly advise that you get this shirt if you can because it really is beautiful...and the sooner that people buy these up, the sooner this design can be reprinted, yay! The brown on silver surprised me at first (I thought the monitor was just screwing with me and the design was mostly black), but the brown gives it a softness that I think black instead would make into a starkness; brown makes the picture even more cute and romantic with the '30s/'40s Hollywood horror style. I always receive tons of compliments on this whenever I wear it about. And lots of assumptions that it is a reference to The Munsters. (It's Eddie Munster grown up? And he's in love with a vampiress, like his mum?) *Sniff* This is the only werewolf shirt I own, as yet. I hope there will be at least a few more, someday. From Threadless or wherever else. about Afternoon Delight
I'm really surprised I've only ever seen one other person wearing this, and it was the yellow, first printing (I prefer the blue second run). I'm also really surprised that most people have apparently never seen it before; everytime I go out in it, there's shocked faces all over.Anyway, I wanted this shirt for years, and am very happy to finally have it. I've got a "Girly XS", which is indeed an extra-small...there's little extra room on this one; if you usually wear XS or S but don't want something very form-fitting, go for the small. (Someday I'll buy some larger sizes and be able to have something to say about them...sorry.) As for washing this, I either do it by hand in lukewarm water, or with a machine, inside-out on the gentle cycle or with a ton of other clothes, in cold water, and hang-dry it right-side out. There has been a tiny bit of shrinkage, but it's really so minor that I think I only noticed because I was looking for it. I have noticed no fade or cracks in the design, yet. If this shirt doesn't offend you and you don't mind having unicorns copulating on your chest, buy it...as of this writing, all sizes and types are still available. Hope this provided at least a bit of help.
I'm sure this shirt is passé by now, but I've wanted it since I saw a guy wearing it in Portland, OR, and I'm happy a friend gave me my own for a birthday.
I've got the "Girly Small" size, and this American Apparel small is more tight-fitting than the "No More Bento" American Apparel small I've got. In fact, it is the most snugly-fitting Threadless shirt I have ever worn. As for washing this, I either do it by hand in lukewarm water, or with a machine, inside-out on the gentle cycle or with a ton of other clothes, in cold water, and hang-dry it right-side out. I have noticed no shrinkage or fade. I like the glittery golden font a lot. But I think that, if you are a guy who has misgivings about wearing sparkly words on his shirt, don't be, because the sparkles (at least on the one I've got) are not really noticeable unless you're looking for them or have your face right up to it. As of this writing, "Ninjas And Pirates..." has only all the Girls' sizes and 2XL for Guys left, priced at $12-$14. If you still think this is funny or if it has nostalgic value for you, I recommend getting yourself one. Sorry I can't say more about the Guys' sizes, but, if you are a girl who usually wears a size small but has any extra weight on and doesn't want a boobie-squashing shirt, I rec the medium. Hope this was of some help. about No More Bento
I'm always surprised that not even one size of this shirt is sold out (as of my writing this). Maybe it's the flaming, almost neon orange. Is the orange version a second printing? I dunno.Anyway, this post is for anybody considering buying the shirt. I know I usually look to the blogs for reviews about how the colour looks IRL, how a certain size fits, etc., and I usually get nothing, sooo...this is for somebody looking for that sort of information. I bought the "Girly Small", which brings the design more to my left side when I wear it (apparently on the larger sizes it's more centered). "No More Bento" is, like it says in the Threadless store, on an American Apparel shirt, but it's a bit more loose than the other American Apparel shirts I've got. Keep in mind that you don't want a size that's too baggy or too form-fitting, because this is a design you don't want to ruin the flow of. As for washing this, I either do it by hand in lukewarm water, or with a machine, inside-out on the gentle cycle or with a ton of other clothes, in cold water, and hang-dry it right-side out. I haven't noticed any shrinkage. I was worried about the design, because at least the white part looks as if it might not have been printed solidly, but I haven't noticed any fading or flaking, yet. Don't let the bright orange put you off; it's easy to get used to and seems to actually look good on most people, of any skin tone. I am very pale, with olive undertones, and currently have dark brown hair, so especially if that description fits you, don't be hesitant! Get the shirt! I have never met, outside of the Internet, anybody who dislikes this design. Most people will even concede that the colour gives it a vibrancy and urgency that lends to the mood of the illustration. However, if you still absolutely despise the orange, encourage as many people as you can to buy this printing up, and then rally a demand for another! Which I assume will be in a different shade. Huh. I hope at least some of this was helpful.
Everybody, please knock it off with the
- shitty "urban" art tees (and your generic comments: "That's siiiiiickk") - stuff-in-the-pocket designs - whales - octopuses/squids - pandas - polar bears, penguins and other cartoony Arctic crap - stuff that looks like lame anime fanart - skulls/skeletons/other bones - birds/butterflies/swirlies/hearts/whatever flowing pensively upward - designs of black people as monkeys - sexist jokes - designs that are obviously ripped off copyrighted images or other designs that have been done before, especially if they've been done fifty-plus times before you stuck yourself in line - basically, everything that looks like something you could buy at the Nike store or Ross. (None of this is funny or cool, it's overdone garbage that's cluttering up the rating process. Kindly try to add something creative to the world, or at least grow the fuck up.) EDIT: Alright, I'll recant the italicized part, because it is overly nasty, and I'll concede that a lot of my problems with designs of the sorts listed above have more to do with their being executed poorly again and again instead of me hating these ideas themselves (exempting the sexist and the racist shirts...that shit is still not funny). I am still tired of seeing these, except when they are pulled off well (which has happened, see "Tief Fairies"), and I apologize if any of my own submitted ideas have made a hypocrite of me. However, I'm not sorry if I've somehow personally offended you...if you somehow feel that I'm attacking your design specifically, though I've mentioned nobody in particular (except Oliveboo, and I actually like his stuff, I just have an issue with the "New Orleans Monkey" design) and have not gone to anybody's blog and bitched them out over their art or opinions. If I'm so full of shit, my thinking your design is crappy shouldn't matter, especially since I tend to rate others' work higher rather than lower. |
I haven't submitted any photos. I guess I don't want free money.
