Whilst travelling in Yogyakarta, Indonesia last week, I was surprised (ok, maybe I wasn't really surprised) to see several tshirts for sale that had been ripped straight from threadless winning designs, but with some small changes, usually colours or the brandname somewhere conspicuous. I won't name the labels responsible, but I will list the designs I saw. I guess the artists can be happy that they are getting even more exposure. I mean, what do they care, they've been paid already.

It doesn't matter, they aren't online. If you're in Yogyakarta, let me know, and I'll give you the names for your lawsuit :P

I must say though, Digital Playground are bold, online and all!

It is completely crap when people rip off others' designs, especially so unimaginatively. Doesn't threadless know or care about such bootlegs?

You're in Canberra d3d? I totally just moved away from there after uni. That's crazy but yea I saw ripped shirts all the time in the used clothing section in Digital Playground too.

Lawsuits! Ha!

Copyright laws are not universal. There are places in the world, believe it or not, where the IP laws are lax or don't exist.

People rip off ideas all the time, legally or otherwise. As consumers, It's up to those who value the ideas to reward those who create them so they have the incentive to keep producing what we like. Otherwise, maybe those ideas weren't that valuable to begin with.

...and look how poorly the rip off was executed at the link d3d posted above. I don't think anyone would want any design, forget Tom Burns', that was printed that poorly.

Yeh i've seen a lot of shops in Thailand ripping off threadless, I reckon it's due to the full-size image being available. There's actually whole chains of shops there that only sell threadless ripoffs.

There are some good Thai manufacturers though, like molecule clothing, who seem to do a fair bit to help stop pirating.

Indonesia actually just moved back into the piracy watchlist, so submitting details of ripoff stores may well have an effect.
