So I went to Las Vegas yesterday with my mother. We were shopping because she didn't get to see me for my birthday (and I guess her antidote to actually spending time with me is to simply spend a whole crap-load of money and calling it a day) and wanted to make up for it. So we went to The Sunset (or whatever it's called) in Henderson.
We bought some cool stuff and then I got bored (cuz I'm not big on the whole 'buy a whole bunch of crap just because you feel like it for a ridiculous amount of money'.. let's face it, I'm pretty cheap, but because of it I never, ever waste my money), so did she, so we decided we'd leave.
Well, we were walking on the lower level and down there they have all of these carts with different people selling different things (cell phones, lotions, hats, jewelry, perfume, etc) and my mom stopped at this cart that was selling ionic straighteners.
Now, I'd worked really, really hard to curl my hair that morning and I was so happy with my hair do because it never holds a curl, but it did.
Well, my mom was just looking at the cart (she was more interested in the hair clips on the table then the actual product), picking up stuff and examining it but at the same time the lady standing there proceeded to grab my arm and sit me down in her little chair asking in her unplacable accent "Can I show you? Can I show you??" over and over again.
Real quick, now, have you guys ever lived in L.A? I basically grew up there and I always remember those homeless men that would have spray bottles and they would be saying "Wash your window for a dollar? Wash it for a dollar?" and before you could say "no" they'd already be halfway done with the first half of your windshield, making you feel like a jerk if you don't pay them for washing your window (even though you didn't ask them to!). She reminded me of that, exactly and I'm sure y'all can see where I'm going with this.
So she then took out one of my bobby pins and straightened out one of my curls! I was like "what are you doing? I don't want to try this" and I was trying to get up but she was like "Oh no, just let's see it, okay?" And then she asked me what kind of straightener I have at home, I was about to answer when she began to strighten out another curl! I was pissed!! I was like "ma'am, I don't want this product! I just stopped for a second to-" and she then went on to ask if the lady with me was my mom and then she tried to pitch a sale to her. My mom thought I was interested so she let the madness go on enough for the woman to straighten out another curl and then my bangs. Finally, my mom got it that I wanted to leave so she was like "Ya know what, I'm flat broke and in a hurry because I left my oven on" and then we left. So my mom's not that great a lying, but we walked away fast. I was pretty mad because my hair was curled with like three straight parts and uneven bangs. .
Anyhow, pointless story but so it's not entirely pointless, I'll ask y'all:

Have you ever been in a position where a salesperson tried something ridiculous to get you to buy their product? It could be anything from a car, to a house to an ionic straightener. Let me know. I want to laugh about it with you.

Blog summary: Her hair was curly, then it wasn't.

Wait - was she using a product, like a chemical, or like a flat iron thing?

The reason why they don't have perfume ladies in department stores anymore is because of allergies and such; being accosted while repeatedly saying LEAVE ME THE HELL ALONE is completely unacceptable.

I agree with Ginette, but I also understand there are some times where stuff like this happens and it's such a shock (like confusion) that you can't even react. I've taken to simply telling the mall-yellers, "Sorry, I don't speak English!" even though it's my only language (though I could muddle through in French if completely necessary). They usually have no answer for that.

you should have just farted really loudly.

that wouldn't have done much, probably - but it would have made that story better.

Never make eye contact. This works with homeless people too.

When they ask "Can I show you something?" respond with "Only if it's your vagina/penis". If they whip it out, kick them in it, if not, go on your way.

Tracerbullet and RobertSilver: ... basically, yeah, pretty much. haha.
Bcrider: Yeah, I'm gonna have to agree, that was probably the worst job in the world for anybody to have to do, I bet perfume ladies got in a lot of fights. Although I was always hoping to be there when someone got sprayed in the eyes but since they don't do it anymore I think the whole world is really missing out on the whole mall experience.
Ginette: Yeah, yeah I should but I was so confused and in disbelief that the lady had actually already managed to get me to sit in the chair.
Whirzle: Hahahaha, yeah it really would have.
Madshadow: Maybe I'll just wear sunglasses everywhere I go.
Fat Pigeon: Hahaha, is that what you do?

Well, this post was entirely pointless but the responses were entertaining anyhow. I like how many funny people there are here on Threadless.

All about me
Hi. I like to make things. Music is my favorite (I play the bass guitar). Screenplays are my second (It's kind of like my job. I love to write and act in plays). Clothing and such comes in third.. well, I mean I love doing all of those things, there's not really a particular order but I guess when I think about it, that's just kind of how it come out. Um, I'm a Christian. I'm not perfect by any means and I don't pretend to be. I love all people, meeting them, talking to them, hanging out with them, whatever, it's all good to me because everyone's different then me somehow making them fascinating. Well, umm, my favorite colour's red. Batman's my favorite. Underoath, Emery, Hillsong, He is Legend, Lights and Yann Tiersen are really cool.. that's really about it. Hope to get to know you, too.
