So, I'm hoping to get some real pointers and tips on my design. I already submitted it - it got a 2.12 - and I don't feel much hope for it getting printed.

I still like my design (naturally) and was considering doing a much better re-sub. I had done the critique, but didn't get any solid advice. I'm also new to the whole art and design thing.

If some bloggers could please help me out, that would be awesome and greatly appreciated. Everyone on the blogs seems to be a veteran and know what is or isn't good. I mostly just want to know if I should keep trying or if it's not even something that's very Threadless-y.

(FYI: I'm really against the idea of glow-in-the-dark ink for this)

Submission is here

Many thanks in advance! :)

i would loose the dotted line.
raise the hands 4 or 5 inches.
lower the fireflies to the chest level.
add 1½ cups chopped walnuts
bake for half an hour at 350°
serves 4-6

Ah, walnuts! The missing ingredient.

I started without the dotted line, but everyone insisted on it. I saw the fireflies as randomly flying. To me, this design looks like they left the glow behind, when I was trying to get the point that there were some still in the hands....yeah, that makes sense, right?

Thank you!

it's a nice design, compositionally very good.

i think since it's such a simple image though, it'd be more graphically strong if you rendered the drawing with clean, solid lines, instead of the sketchy ones you have now.

i personally don't have a problem with the dotted lines

by the way, i saw the black version in the critique, and i think i like it a lot more than the white. like, if you had the white, clean, solid lines against it.

perhaps you could try a slightly darker, more yellow-orange color for the glow, though, so it stands out more against the white.

I'm finally considering not being lazy about this anymore - I apologize for the bump =P

So - I'm going to make a black shirt version and try for the clean lines.

BUT! I'm not 100% on how to go about the clean lines - do I just go over them in pen and scan it in? Or I have Gimp, which is probably useless for that...

Annnd I'm also having an issue with getting the design to fit on the white shirt AND black shirt model template. Suggestions on that?

Thanks to Somni and MrAnonymous..since I had kinda forgotten about it.

The easiest way to go about it would probably be to ink it with a good quality pen? I think? Open to being contradicted here, though. I'd do the hands and firefles separately so that you can make them higher resolution.
I'd like to see a hatched version myself... I liked the variance you had in line thickness on the original, it would be nice to see that in a tidier style.

I'll try to keep it near the same but tidier. I personally liked the sketchiness but I was in the minority on that. I'm also re-drawing one of the bugs so they aren't so copy/paste.

I know what you mean about the sketchiness, it was quite nice, but not overly threadlessy... so I guess re-interpreting in a threadless way is the next best thing.

Oh wow. I didn't even notice they were copypasted! Well done on that!
