I'm currently working on a project where the client would like a virtual flier for an event (I'm assuming to post on a site or to email to people), in which the web addresses are clickable and would direct the viewer directly to the web site.

I work in print media, and have no idea how to do this, what it's called, or how to begin. What file format would this be?

Anybody web-savvy?

could you post a link to where one already exists on the web?
(to give us a better idea what a "virtual flier" is/looks like)

well you could do this a number of ways simply putting &#lt; a href="www.blahblahblah.com" &#gt; &#lt; img src="url to flyer" &#gt;

you could make the flyer into a flash thing with the url embeded

AFAIK I don't think you could embed the URL into a GIF or JPG image however.

when the email it they will just want to make sure the URL is in the text somewhere cause not everyone will take email as HTML

I'd have to make a flash file? I wonder if it's worth it...
