Good movie but i'm so biased being a loyal Marvelite. I think Avengers was way more entertaining. There were parts of Superman where I felt like I was about to fall asleep. The Lois Lane elements I felt were forced and why the hell did Zod want her on the ship?!?! They never explained that, it was so random.
That especially bugged me, too. Also, they say Superman became gradually more powerful as the Earth's yellow sun supercharged his cells over the years, but then Zod is there for an hour and gets just as powerful as Superman?
Pa Kent suggests Clark let a whole busload of kids die to keep his secret, but then has such a heart of gold that he runs into a tornado to get a dog? This movie was a mess, man.

Also, if Superman and Zod are equal in strength, doesn't that make it a level playing field? But then Superman is strong enough to effortlessly snap Zod's neck. If that's the case and two super Kryptonians can break one another's bones, their sky-punching should have caved their chests in. I'm willing to have suspension of disbelief, but a movie needs to play by its own rules.
Also, Supes kills Zod to stop him from frying 3 people. Fair enough. But you two literally just killed TENS OF THOUSANDS OF INNOCENTS! In one case Superman tells a girl to hide inside a building and then they KNOCK THE BUILDING DOWN.
The biggest flub is the very end though. Nobody hires newspaper reporters anymore. Heh.
When Zod was about to fry those people the angle allowed the people to run in the other direction or duck under the lazer to escape lol. I kept saying "Hey dummies move out the way!!!!"

You could go all the way to sheer mindlessness- (practically brainless) and hit up all the small insects down to bacteria, but you lose a lot of the fun. I think what you're looking for the least intelligent animal that is also the closest to human in terms of biology, so a mammal is probably in order, in which case, I'd say a sheep.
Bugs can at least form complicated organized structures that's why I wouldn't include them.
