Okay so I got this job offer.

The salary is standard, but I like the job.
So before I sign the contract & send them, I email & ask the guy bout some stuffs.

One of the Q was what areas I should find apartment. He answered 'there is no point to tell you now, you dont know the area anyway'. Then my reply was 'if you be so kindly name them so I could do some research beforehand'. And he replied ' No offense, but please understand, I cannot keep writing letters to you. I have loads of things to do here. Just do your own research.'

Yes I agree I could do my own research, but why did he said earlier no point to tell me the area since I would not know thm. LOL. Do I sense jerk here? Or am I just too sensitive ???
LOL LOL

What do you think?

It sounds like a portent, apply that attitude to every day work situations and you have the makings of a unhappy time.

Either that, or hes some smug whos walking around underestimating ppl - which would make him a sucky boss.

I'd go with your gut on this one.

Unless you badly need the money, in which case, just suck it up and hope for the best.

This is still on formal letters phase you know. What'd he be like when I'm there working together with him already?

You could try asking him some more questions and see if he's always unpleasant?

he sounds like a busy man with better things to do than chat about places to live. i'd take the job if you like it but remember this guy is going to treat you like an employee not a person.

Actually, before I posted this blog..I was dying to rub it to his face & turn down the offer. But I paused, to check if I was having my period lol.

I really got to find out the guy whos out, if he ever told him to wear a French maid suit.

@d3d
I'm not asking him to be my friend. I know hed be my superior. But before I asked him some Qs, he did tell me I could email or call him to ask anything. But then I was quite annoyed by his 1st reply bout the place. I know bosses r busy, but he could direct me to his secretary/assistant or whoever for Qs instead of telling me to email/call him right?

yeah you're right, he definitely sounds like a bit of an arsehole, but maybe you just caught him in a moment of stress.

telling you that you're free to call or email with any questions is generally just a formality used to close a job offer. i think he could have handled it better and been less abrupt in his response, but on the other hand i don't think it's unreasonable to expect a certain degree of self-sufficiency from a potential employee (you might have caught him on a bad day as well).

yeh probably..

btw, this job is abroad. so i gotta really think hard before signing. and the contract is 2 years. i cant just walk out if things suck ocean drain.

if it were here, id just go there & do it.

He sounds like a jerk to me. Naming an area wouldn't have killed him.

huh... well, that changes things somewhat. if it's working abroad your question seems a lot more reasonable (along with your subsequent reservations)

that was my point asking opifan64. this is 12+ hours flight away. and the Q also was related to the accommodation budget. you see the company will give me a certain amount for renting flat. so i was asking him what area i could find flat (which i can afford with the amount the company gives). im sensing other thing here, are you?

I was thinking what opifan said before i even read his post. yes the guy didnt have to be abrupt with you, but while you are saying "is this guy a dick?" he might be asking himself "Is this person going to be asking me questions about every single thing"

working abroad changes things of course, and a 2 year contract? what kind of job is that lol, ive never had to sign a contract for a job ive had, so I dunno, what happens if you bail out after a year? is there a penalty of some sort?

also where is the job, surely someone here might know the area and could help you out and tell you some places to look.

Well, it's always going to be a leap of faith to some extent. Based on the one exchange you had I'd probably have some reservations... but I'm not sure if it would be a complete deal-breaker. If you genuinely think you'll enjoy the job I'd still give it some thought. I'm sure once you're actually there it will be easier to get a feel for things as far as the rental situation goes... but the question remains whether this is someone you'll enjoy working with.

graphic design for branding company somewhere in middle east.

during the salary negotiation, he objected the amount i was asking & said something like 'hey this is the thing i can give you now as a start, eventually we will raise it.' i told him if he could put it on the letter of offer, i dont want to risk going there & find out that my salary will be fixed at that rate for the 2 yrs time. then he said 'would you stay for 2 years if i didnt give u a raise say after a year? i dont think so.' i replied 'well i wont, but i have to check the lawyers if i can do that. would itd be a contract breech if i walked out before 2 yrs?'.
then this whole flat area thing lol.
