My friend wants to print some tees, and she has asked me if I know how to get AA (American Apparel) shirts at a cheaper price. I told her you would need a wholesale account.

Problem is, I don't know how you would go about to get one.

HELP!

yeah. you'll need a tax ID number (which is basically just your social security number if you're an individual acting as a business). I believe you can apply for a TIN (Tax ID Number) through the IRS... possibly a form ss-4.

Okay. I did some looking around and yes, you're friend will need to fill out a form SS-4 which can be obtained from the IRS website. Basically, the tax ID number identifies your friend as a "business" (which will affect what taxes they may have to file at the end of the year) but in reality it doesn't make things much more confusing than taxes already are.

I'm not sure if they'll need to apply for a small business license in whatever state they live as well but that can be found out pretty easily by calling your local business bureau (number can be found in the front of the yellow pages I think under "government listings")

but that's really it. aquiring the tax id number is free but if they need to apply for a small business license, that may cost them some money.. not a lot, but some.

hope this helps.

Can you do this if you're under the age of 18? A minor?

I think AA will see pretty much anybody. They take contributions, of course, but you don't have to pay if you can't. They have special meetings for people under 18, so, I wouldn't worry about that part too much. I'm not sure what you mean by "wholesale" -- if it works, you only need to go through once....
