about Goatse
omg clothing is incredibly lame. If we wanted generic vintage tees, we'd shop at AF or AE. If we wanted gross, offensive clothing, we'd debase ourselves and shop at Hot Topic. What we want is something original, something different that what we see in stores everyday.

If you guys keep heading in this direction, you'll eventually start making black shirts with white lettering that reads "You laugh at me because I'm different; I laugh at you because you're all the same." Just like every other lame "sensationalist t-shirt" selling company.

When did anyone think that omg was a good idea? Did anyone even THINK?

Please spare us the frustration and disappointment that omg's causing. Shut it down.

Amen. That shirt is an atrocity!

OMG is an awesome idea- the Goatse shirt is not. I don't see what's the problem witht eh concept behind OMG- it's an extension of threadless, after all, and the designer pool is different all the time and fairly varied.

Nevermind that you are not the sole audience of either threadless or OMG, and there are people who do want these kinds of shirts, but hey.

OMG is a bad idea, this shirt is an even worse idea.

OMG could be a good idea if they chose GOOD slogans.

They have the opportunity to get significantly better depending on the next couple of batches that come out. Apparently a new set is supposed to be here in the near forseeable future.

you have my word the next few batches will have much more class :) it's been so interesting watching the top scoring omg slogans. the top 2 right now both poke fun at vegetarians.

Vegetarians Are Eating The Rainforest.

and

Meat is murder. Tasty, tasty murder.

though most of the top scoring slogans may focus on controversial topics, there are quite a few that aren't so offensive. we currently have about 10-15 designs done and printing and none of them are bad at all... i think the most offensive in the next 15 we'll be releasing is "let's all mess with texas"

If we wanted shirts with offensive or unoriginal sayings on them, we'd shop at Hot Topic.

"I lost my phone number, can I borrow yours?"

Yeah, not funny.

evilina on May 01 '05 at 3:11pm
Skaw, being a vegan, I don't think that's very funny. I'm not going to get into a debate here about what's right or wrong about murdering animals for personal satisfaction, and it's well known that the Threadless crew will wolf down a hamburger like it's nobody's business, but fucking come on. "Meat Is Murder. Tasty, Tasty Murder" is something you SHOULD NOT PRINT. You will lose a lot of customers that way, because you will insult a LOT of people.

None of the OMG shirts are funny and they LACK CLASS. You're turning into freaking Hot Topic, way to be different. If you guys want people to spread the word about your company, maybe you should try something more mature, instead of sounding like retarded 15 year olds with a Google search.

That made me think of this.

Yes.

For someone who gets so offended over immature shirts and anti-vegan slogans, using the phrase “retarded 15 year olds “ is quite hypocritical. My 2nd cousin, twice removed, is retarded and I don't think that was very nice.

Throwing a hissy fit over a shirt such as this is pointless and undermines the site. People new to the site will read your comments and get turned off by the negativity.

In the end, the amount of quality shirts far outnumbers the mediocre ones. This shirt will sell very well and then provide threadless with more funds to continue to provide you other fantastic shirts.

Laughing it up, Kevin:

"Thank you for contacting PETA about animals killed during grain harvesting. While it is true that animals are killed during harvesting, there is a lot more to this story than meets the eye. First, we, and animals rights advocates in general, are primarily concerned with preventing the suffering of living animals. While millions of animals are killed each year in the harvesting process, millions of animals suffer EVERY DAY in the meat industry. BILLIONS of animals are tortured and slaughtered for food every year in the United States alone. All of these animals being raised for meat eat grain. In fact, they consume more than half of all of the grain produced in this country. If the population of the United States were vegetarian, we would actually require LESS grain, and thereby kill fewer animals during harvesting. When you eat meat, not only are you contributing to the suffering of the farmed animals, but you are also contributing to the majority of the animals killed during harvesting."

My three year old cousin has Down Syndrome. I couldn't care less if I, or anyone else for that matter, uses the word retarded. My "negative comments" are just a few of the thousands that circulate about this website. Would you wear a t-shirt that had a slogan such as "Killing People Is Fun"? Probably not. By wearing something that promotes the act of going out and killing something, nobody wins. By wearing something that references someone's expanded asshole is pretty disgusting, too. Are people buying shirts such as these mindless teenagers? It's just stupid. Does that word hurt your feelings too? Sorry.

if you don't like this shirt, then you can rest assured that it wasn't made for you.

if this shirt was printed, there were obviously enough votes to prove that it will sell well.

if you immediately associate goatse with being gross, then you are thinking of the small picture. of course the image that goatse has come to represent is gross -- but it more than just a heinous picture of a dude with a boner holding his asshole like 3 inches wide wigth 8 of his fingers on both of his hands.

it's a phonomenon, and an experience. it's the website that made you check the links people send you before you click them. it's the website that got you introuble once or twice. it's one of the websites that will surely live in history. it separates the noobs from the 1337.

you should all read about it on wikipedia.org, it's pretty interesting. p.s. eat shit haters.

evilina, if you are going to post that email, you should at least post (or READ) the rebuttal below it. You've selectively posted only what supports your case.

Judging by the votes for the slogans, I very much doubt that evilina's threats of "you will lose a lot of fans" carry much weight. Who picke dthe slogans again? :)

being someone who has done MUCh investigation of the veiled lies of PETA and ALF - I would LOVE the Meat is murder. Tasty Tasty murder shirt. It took me close to 30 minutes to stop laughing. Whoever did that one...mad kudos.

Eating vegetables is murder as well is it not? In a lot of cases fruit and vegetables are consumed while they are still alive. I respect the vegetarian and vegan decisions, I tried it myself once out of sheer curiousity as to if I could do it. I prefer to eat meat. If I can respect other people's decision to not eat meat, I see no reason why vegetarians can't extend that courtesy the other way.

Now, as far as the goatse shirt, I think it's terrible design. Bad concept, bad execution and I'm disappointed that it got printed. But life goes on. I accept that the Threadless community does not revolve around my personal opinions.

well, i dont care if this is disgusting or offendign, the design is simply bullshit, i could only recognize that there were hands in play after reading about what goatse actually is....

if threadless is going to print another set of boring text-shirts, im off!

threadless seems to be going downhill...... the designs that are being printed lately arent that great. maybe they should stop printing new designs for a while and start printing some of the real old ones, the designs that were good.
bsushi
bsushi on May 04 '05 at 5:56pm
Maybe their sales indicate otherwise, and you should remember that what threadless prints is largely dictated by the fans?
Furious R

I really don't think OMG shirts should be sold on threadless. Lets keep em seperate folks... One is for designers, the other is for the kids with torn jeans and tucker hats.

Wow that's ignorant. I didn't realize that you needed to fit a profile to shop here. I better leave.

What I mean to say is threadless and OMG thrive on two different styles. Text based tees don't tend to do well on threadless (Goatsee an exception). In my opinion they would do better to keep the OMG shirts on OMG.

Again I appologise for the generalization.
