The scoring page is in a state.
There are far too many designs that have been created with minimal effort.
If I see anymore submissions for tree design tees, I may scream.

Why is it that so many horrendous designs are created yet the amazing designs are given just as bad a score?

I know everyone has their own taste but surely something that looks like it's been scrawled on Paint shouldn't be worth submission.

On the other hand, I for one fully think amazing designs such as this
Dangerous - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever
shouldn't be given a second thought and should be printed straight away.

Sometimes something that looks like it's been scrawled on Paint is far more with aesthetic value than the normal trend we're all used to scoring.

I gave that design a 2. It's nice but it's not me and I'm not big on text, no matter how beautifully rendered.

That's kind of a blanket statement but I guess what I'm trying to say is that we've all got different taste.

roadkill3d, what do you class as the 'normal trend we're all used to scoring'?

i can guarantee that if threadless does decide to print that shirt, it won't be for another 2-3 months

I give from 0 to 2 to submissions which have been drawn well but don't have any kind of positive effect on me. For the "Dangerous" I would have given 2 because I just don't like the idea that the snake is propably going to attack that bird. Many times there are things like this which eventually makes me give somewhat bad score to a t-shirt. 'Dangerous'
is beautifully drawn, excelent I may say - but I just don't like the idea which it presents.

3-4 I give to the t-shirts which I could buy myself. Then the idea must be very good as well as the design. It doesn't matter if the design is drawn with Paint and it looks ridiculous. Sometimes the ridiculous designs are the best. It's just what suits me and what represents me. It has lot of to do with the idea what I want people to think of me when I wear some t-shirt. So the decision has lot of to do what I am - not what the design is.

5 I give to submission which is over the top - it must be perfect and really mind-blowing in every way. It's something I haven't seen yet.

Anyways - I don't know about rest of the folks but this is how I score t-shirts.

I am really picky too, and have to say the subs lately have been not good.

I think the thing that makes it so lopsided is people who score like Thomas and say "I'd buy it, but I'll only give it a 3 or a 4."

If you'd buy it, give it a doggone five!

I think most of the people out here with discriminating taste who score too conservatively scoring. And a lot of people with not-so-high-an-eye for art throw fives around like lawn darts.

I'm sick of some of the styles, too. For instance beedy-eyed cartoon characters. There's one out there now of two... ahem... sea creatures holding hands with a heart bubble. Talk about minimal effort! Their arms and such bend at exactly the same points so you just KNOW its a pasted mirror image.

But beedy-eyed illustrated cartoon animals sell. If that one beats out the tiger washing his stripes on laundry day, I'll just write humanity off as hopeless and defect to the baboon family.

Scoring crappy designs will help give you an intimidating average like 0.62

lol... I think mine comes out to something like 2 and a half...

^ i agree with the first first thing you said

If a design really sucks like....drawn in paint then I give it a 0-1
If a design is ok but I wouldn't buy it I'll give it a 2
If the design is drawn really well but I don't like it I'll give it a 3-4
If It's amazing I'll give it a 5!

I don't see that my way of scoring t-shirts makes the final scores lopsided. If the average score of popular t-shirt is 3, so what? Is it lopsided number? It's just the average. If we all know that 3 is already quite good average what does it matter that the number is 3 and not 5. Those are just numbers. I'm pretty damn sure that the people who work in Threadless (and ultimately decide which t-shirt is going to get printed) know the numbers. They are expert of numbers.

So it really doesn't matter if I give zero to bad t-shirt and 1 to good t-shirt and don't use any other numbers at all because final math balances it all.

The worst thing anyone could do is to suddenly change his style to vote. There is some kind of logic behind everyones voting. If there is no logic then we get lopsided scores.

I suppose that makes sense when you put it that way. I didn't mean to offend - just making a casual observation about the whole thing. :)

The way I vote, they could do away with 2s altogether. I don't know that I have ever given a two.

Kresta, you have a point.
Something that looks abismal gets a 0-1
2 is rarely used by me.
3 if it's okay but I'm not sure I'd buy it,
and 4s and 5s for really good designs I'd buy.
People seem to be recycling old ideas.
I've seen at least 3 different variations on the octopus gardener design, too many tree designs to count, and so many stupid cute t-shirts...
So when a really unique design comes along, it's a nice refreshing change.

I don't see how anyone can justify scoring that design (Dangerous) a two or less. It's fine if it's not something you want to wear, that's what the "I'd buy it..." is for, but that doesn't mean it should receive a low score. Any design like that one that's well illustrated, took time make, and was obviously well planned out before hand, should at least get a three.

I totally wish they would have printed that shirt...

It is a little disheartening every monday when i come on here to look at the new batch of tees and theres only one (or sometimes none) that I would consider buying, when, or so I feel, it used to be that every shirt that got printed was unique and enticing in it's own way.

Not to say that Threadless has gone downhill or anything, but the quality of people on the site has gone down a little I think, and therefore things that normally wouldn't be scored highly are and things that should be scored highly and printed are forgotten about, like dangerous.

Before I found Threadless, I would never have considered buying a new t-shirt every week. I have to say I'm usually relieved rather than disappointed when there's only one or sometimes none that I would consider buying.
