Okay... so I think that I'm artistic... and I really want to make shirt designs... but I don't know how....

What program do all you designers use to make nifty designs?

Photoshop? Illustrator? Paint?

i do hand drawns', scan em in, then clean up on photoshop... flash's a good drawing program, too...

Hand drawn stuff doesn't make threadless very happy, though... you always end up with loads of colors, and soo much detail gets lost.

I did that too for my first design but I was also looking for help on this topic (since its already been bumped).

I'm attempting to use Ai and am just completely lost, I know how to get the brush and stuff to work (kinda, I dont know how to make the brush really thin which is bothering me).

I dont know if I should do a single color per layer and how I can make sure that all the layers line up and if I outline in one color how I can fill in a diff color... all that jazz. If any skilled person would mind offering advice on how they get detailed vector art to work out.

OR should I just screw Ai and do it with pixels at high DPI?

with lasers and beer, of course!

you don't haave to separate layers for color in AI. photoshop and illustrator are two different beasts but the more you use them, the more you'll use them simultaneously.

take a class at a local community college if possible but also just keep plugging away, trial and error offers many rewards if you stick to it.

but stick with photoshop if u r comfortable with it for right now.

300 dpi is sufficient and just work in RGB

there are some good blogs on different tricks and techniques, just search for them -

Should I always vectorize an image after I clean it up in photoshop?

And maybe the graphics design class im taking at my highschool next semester will help some...

no, there is no need to vectorize

just make sure it's at 300dpi and a decent size (ie 8" x 11" and not 1.5" x 2")
