its the one with the illustrator icon correct?

not which icon it is - what the template is

to answer my question - the template is a document that represents the size and resolution parameters threadless requires

so the only purpose the template serves is to provide you with an example of how your PRESENTATION blank canvas should be formatted

oh but on the template when i open it in illustrator it provides me with a variety of shirts

You can choose any colour you like from those shirts. It really just shows you the available colours and gives you some options for presentation either on the t-shirt template or on the model photos.

yeah - the second purpose of the template is to provide color samples and placement on a t-shirt graphic - although there are more model photos available elsewhere

there's also a hidden option on the template if you enter the secret code

I am having the same problem- Threadless says to d/l the templates file, so I did. I get 2 folders: "Threadless Tee Templates" & "Threadless Blank Photos".
The templates folder only has 3 files in it- I am on a Mac and I couldn't open the .ai file.
So I chose to open the .psd file in photoshop.
What I got was a 640x640 image @ 72dpi on a blue bkgrd- basically a drawing of a t-shit with a note in the middle that says Read thru the documentation, good luck, blah blah blah.

Well, I read thru the documentation and it does not tell me about what KIND of file I submit (.jpg, .psd, etc) what SIZE (I saw something vague about 6 x 10 inches max and no more than 8 colors) and what dpi (72? 150? 300?)

Can someone please help? This doesn't look like a template to me!
And I just supposed to delete the contents of this template and paste my picture into it? That would make my final image a 72 dpi image that's 640x640 max (9x9 inches).

The template is just to show your presentation to the voters. Your file needs to fit the specifications provided in the pdf (size, colors, layers, etc).

Go score a bunch of subs and you'll se what I mean.

is everyone saying that you have to draw your own t-shirt template?

Not to be mean, but if you cannot operate the template chances are your photoshop/illustrator work is not going to be up to par.

i'm having the exact same problem, apparently the doc with all the shirts is supposed to be multiple layers and we take one out and work on it, but mine is just one background layer

there's a grey folder with the shirt colours, just click on the grey folder and all the shirt layers will appear as a drop down. it's not really necessary to use the specific template however (as already mentioned). you just need your file to be 640 px by 800 px max.

I'm having the same issue. I'm wondering if my Photoshop Elements (go ahead, laugh at me) can actually open the layers. Help on this subject would be awesome.
