What should a tall girl buy?

I'm 5'10" and I've only bought a men's small so far, which fit but was... manly.

Do the girls sizes run a lot smaller/shorter? I'm thinking maybe I can get a large but am worried it will have the dreaded baggy width and too-short look which is a tall girl's nightmare...

Sigh!

My girlfriend's 5'10" and slim and she wears a girl's large comfortably.
