OK you really need to state that the man on the shirt (yes it is a man) is Miyavi. And if PSC (Miyavi's record label) gets a hold of this you could be in big trouble, the shirt is lovely, but you are basically making money off one of their most popular artsits, and PSC is really touchy on what you can do w/ their artists' photos. It's a great t-shirt but I don't want you or Threadless to get sued so... and people really need to stop saying it's a woman..or bjork..it's bugging the heck out of me :)

so this shirt's been up 2 years now and you've never once given credit to Miyavi. this is directly based off a picture of him, and PS Company, his record company in Japan, is notoriously hard on people who use his image without permission, especially since you're making money off of it.

just because he's not based in America doesn't give you the right to steal his image and pass it off as your own work.

Hahah. What are you on about? The sourced image might well be from a picture of this guy, but the artwork here is sufficiently changed and nobody is 'making money off Miyavi', as it was never sold as a Miyavi shirt. If anything, give some credit to the photographer. Lol @ idiots.

Well, it hasn't, actually. The image was vectorized, some brushes were added behind, and the brain was added. I don't feel that to be much altered at all. Anyway, using a copyrighted picture (which it is) or a picture of a model without their permission (which this is) are both violations of Threadless' submission policies.

And the fact that it's not being sold as a Miyavi shirt doesn't mean they're not making money off of him--it's his face. People think it's a nice face and buy the shirt. Ergo, they're making money off of him. What they're not making money off of is his name.

It's actually disturbing to look at this design and the original picture side by side--strands of hair are in the same place on both. And the pose, extended arm and all, is identical, although slightly cropped. Artistic integrity is important. I wasn't allowed to copy National Geographic photos for bgs in art classes, because it's stealing. So is this shirt, as pretty as it is.

The design is really good... i just wished it was printed in a different color shirt, some color that is darker... more like a dark maroon or something... still love the design different shirt color basically.

It is a nice design sir, and so are many of your others.

But the fact you do not give Miyavi credit, erks me.

It is more than obvious you used his picture as a base,

many people have done this also, however they are not selling and making money off them.

You should at least admit and credit Miyavi for it.

The eighth grade has to design a T-Shirt, that's ENTIRELY ORIGINAL, and Threadless is really big in my school too!

be prepared to get in trouble with Miyavi's record label. They dont' even allow fans to have certain pictures of him online, they especially aren't going to be happy once they find out you're making money off his picture. this isn't even your original design. sure, you photoshopped over it but the black is an original design that you didn't even make..

sooo be prepared to get sued. esp once it get's reported to the record label.

MAN! I joined just to trash you for tracing and then calling yourself a graphic artist. I can appreciate being inspired by something but this is nearly a direct copy.

And whoever thinks you're a designer is nutz. Be original. Get inspired then further it, that's what design is about...not copying.

I like it, but the reason I do is because it's a picture of Miyavi that I love. I really actually love the shirt, but it's not your design. I don't know enough about legal things and whatnot, but it does make me curious if this could actually be sold. I'm sure there are some loopholes though or something.

I really like most of your designs. They're really cool. I even bought your Who I Am shirt, even though the debate ensues about if it's actually legal to sell someone else's image. I adore Miyavi, though, which is probably a contributing factor to why I got the shirt.

I was just wondering if you were aware that you used the picture of a famous japanese rock musician or if you were just surfing google and found a pretty picture you thought you'd like to make into a shirt.
