In 2007, the 'artist' Guillermo Vargas Habacuc, took
a dog from the street,
tied him to a rope in an art gallery, and starved
him to death.

Photobucket

For several days, the 'artist' and the visitors of
the exhibition have
watched emotionless the shameful 'masterpiece' based
on the dog's agony,
until eventually he died.

Does it look like art to you?

Photobucket

But this is not all... the prestigious Visual Arts
Biennial of the Central
American decided that the 'installation' was
actually art, so that
Guillermo Vargas Habacuc has been invited to repeat
his cruel action for the
biennial of 2008.

This is not cool if it's true, but I wish people cared this much about human rights abuses.

That's fucking disgusting. Shit like this does not constitute art. I suppose some may concider this "original" or "thought provoking" but to me this is completely idiodic and cruel.

This is quite thought provoking, though - as art should be. Perhaps it's a stunt, to get this guy publicity? It's working.

It's pretty disgusting. Maybe he inadvertently showed how nobody that went in to the place saved the fucking dog. What's that say about everyone else?

I'm trying to figure out what the writing on the wall is supposed to mean. "It's what you read?" perhapse some of it is being cut off.

I find it amusing at what exactly constitues as "art".

I recently had a lecture which included a previous "art" exhibition as an example. Apparently a few years back an artist cut up her abdomen in front of everyone in the shape of a star and would either sit on a block of ice or occasionally sip some wine and let herself bleed profusely to death. Although eventually patrons had enough and called an ambulance. Like, how is that "art"?

Juanita Bermúdez, director of the Códice Gallery, insisted Natividad escaped after just one day. She said: 'It was untied all the time except for the three hours the exhibition lasted and it was fed regularly with dog food Habacuc himself brought in.'

Im not really sure anymore where is the truth.. did this really happend or somebody made this look so bad..

UGH

HE DIDNT KILL IT

he found it starving on the street, so he took it in his gallery and tied it to the wall

all to make one point..

you put an issue on display and suddenly everyone cares about it but how many people must have seen that dog dying and did NOTHING. how many people sit to eat and think NOTHING of the animal that suffered for them? If you eat meat you honestly should not care what happens to ANY animals including humans for that matter.

you fuckwit. You can eat meat and still care about the welfare of the animals and other people.

to kill something is obviously not art

but hundreds of thousands of dogs and cats are "humanely" put down in the USA alone each year because owners don't want them anymore, abandon them, harm them. Out of sight, out of mind though, we could give a fuck right? right because I don't see too many people up in arms about stopping it.

the hypocrisy of our society is amazing

we condemn murder and violence and rape yet we send people in uniforms to commit those acts on the soils of foreign countries.

now we have petions and whatever all over the place to stop one guy raising awareness in his home country. definitely not the right way to do it but the fact that none of the attendants at the exhibition did anything is the primary issue. they see that shit all day long, hell, they run over them in the family car. How many ppl have actually been to a foreign 3rd world country on threadless.

art is a lie anyway, but this is just torture

The Balinese believe the dogs are reincarnated thieves and they treat them fucking terribly. I believe Hindus also consider dogs to be reincarnated thieves, so don't be too surprised when you see them being treated inhumanely. That said, Hindus believe cows are sacred and look how our culture treats cows. Then you have the Chinese who do eat dogs.

i don't see a parallel between being cruel to another living thing and art.
