You say he's an ass. It's hard not to get pissed off at the people here. At least he didn't let himself get intimidated like so many other new people here who just keep quiet and take the abuse.
I'm done with this community. Blech.
Michless, they don't necessarily go up in the order they're received, and the "submitted on" date is misleading. It's really the "posted on" date, which tends to be a couple weeks after the submission date.
LordWard, I feel your pain. The people on the site tend to be complete jerks, and think "constructive criticism" means crushing people's souls. Especially certain people with certain repetitive usernames. Just take delight in knowing that, of the many many designs she's submitted, she hasn't ever gotten picked either, so what does she know?
Granted, if you're on this site every day, looking at and scoring hundreds of submissions a week, it can get frustrating when things tend to look the same. Sometimes I, too, want to scream at people when they insist on submitting designs squids, robots (with hearts on their chests, usually), birds, hair, trees, and all the other cliche things. But I hold my tongue.
And since this is a contest, it really isn't fair to be so harsh on you. You had a theme, so did thousands of other people, and you didn't get to see ALL of them before you submitted yours.
The same way Convergent Evolution works, so does creativity. People all over the place, without knowing each other or experiencing each other's creations, come up with the same idea at the same time. Whoever gets it out there first is "original", while the others, who had the idea at the same time but submitted it to the world half a second later, are set upon by angry mobs with cries of "Plagarism" and "Unoriginal!"
Sorry to rant. This whole "community" bugs me and I've only come back because I'm bored at work and this was the first thing I came across.
As far as an actual critque goes, it isn't a very strong piece conceptually. But it is rendered nicely. Clean, professional, well done. I like the texture on the body of the camera.
I figure if cartoon characters only have three fingers, then they only have three nipples! (If they're cows, that is. People would have only one then? Or, in the case of Olive Oil, no boobs at all.)
