What hack of a designer sets ANYTHING in Arial?

This is a dry design ehpmasized by the empty, and almost coldly wmotional text coupled by the "lifeline, flatline" lines tht provive rhythm

It's effective and a decent buy.

isnt that helvetica?

It's actually neither arial nor helvetica. If you compare the 't', the 'f' and the 'e' for both fonts with that of the t-shirt, you'll see that some match but not all of them. It could be that the designer has mixed and matched his fonts

You're a designer in training. You ought to shut the fuck up instead of making comments about things you clearly haven't learnt yet, instead of being a pretentious fuckwit.

pretty sure it's Univers Bold

even if he WAS actually right about the font hes calling out it still wouldn't mean shit. This design was created years ago, is a threadless classic, and the font whilst it may not be exciting or fresh suits both the theme and execution.

It really shits me when people hate stuff just on reputation, but don't actually know why they hate it apart from their professor at university telling them not to use it once.

A damn good one.

I'm pretty sure this designer used the Arial bold.

univers is more square like
so that leaves the stretched out ones like Helvetica and Arial.
Arial - a font everyone has on his computer and the uberfamous helvetica. You can see it's not the helvetica.
(Check the 't')
spires
   spires on Oct 01 '06 at 10:14am
It's definitely not univers, but a mix of helvetica and arial

maybe he downloaded a fake helvetica
they tend to mix excisting fonts and make a 'new' font

   spires on Oct 01 '06 at 10:24am
I just looked at the original sub which uses some form of helvetica bold, as far as I can tell. I think Threadless redesigned the typography it after it won.

tommskii on Oct 02 '06 at 7:11am
I'm pretty sure it's not Helvetica on the printed design cos the 't' doesn't have a slanted top. It might actually be Arial on second examination, although the text seems a bit chunkier on the tee. The 'f' on Univers Bold seems too tall and the slant on the 't' is too shallow.

Who said Typography geeks don't know how to have a good time...

swiss?

i have to laugh when people slag off classic fonts in an attempt to look cool.

the only font on the planet that has no place ever is comic sans. everything else has a purpose somewhere.

to be honest though, for all the minor differences between all those fonts, it really is a silly argument.

And there's nothing wrong with using arial or helvetica IMO, as long as it's done well.

I was just saying to the original poster who was whining about the arial.

But yeah I guess lol. You know what I mean.

Arial has a bad rep for a reason. As I understand it, it's a bad MS hackjob of Helvetica with questionable proportions and... maybe... no kerning pairs? My internal type encyclopaedia has moldered away. It looks surprisingly decent here, though, so maybe I am full of crap.

I know someone whose idea of a joke is to design a website using comic sans. Now that's true typography geekdom.

OH SNAP!

I forgive all doubters. (thanks westwood)
Arial IS a MS hackjob of helvetica, proportions are almost identical. Although, it is the most well hinted font on the planet.

pooHED on Oct 06 '06 at 6:59am
ps... That design has to many horizotal rules to be swiss.
