TODAY IS MY 5th THREADLESSVERSARY!

So here is a small recap of all the things that i've been through during these couple of years.

2002
Jun 20 '02

Registered as USER# 6903. I was a 17 year old noob who had just submitted his first lame attempt at a teeshirt design. Outcome: 2.1 out of 5 - scored by 284 folks (not to shabby for a crappy splat). That year I submitted a total of 3 design. My top score being a 2.58 out of 5. Back then there where no Blogs so all the actual comments on the design where done on this forum like format. It was pretty funny but there where not many people who actually used it.

After realizing that I didn't have what it took to be printed. I decided to lay low for a while and think of cool ideas I could submit later on. In the mean while I used to practice with a few programs in order to develop my vector skills. All I knew was that I just wasn't ready yet.

I decided to try my luck again with one more design, but failed and this time it was a nasty fall.
Outcome: 1.55 out of 5

I was depressed. I thought that me and threadless where just incompatible. I thought I would never get printed. So off I went again. I needed some time alone. I said goodbye.

Almost a year had passed, I had gained perspective. I was a new man. I felt fresh, with new ideas. I was determined to get my design printed on a tee. That was my goal and I would do anything to get it.

I submitted a total of 5 designs that year. My first design got a 2.48 out of 5! I knew it was some sort of sign. It was time. I was ready! But my second and third designs had me down again... oh the disgrace. 1.68 and 1.78 out of 5! This cannot be. I felt I took one step forward and two steps back. I needed to find my way. I continued my quest for the print. My fourth design brought some light into the picture, 2.19 out of 5. I was happy, but I knew it would not be enough. Then finally on Nov 21 '04 I submitted the last design of the year. A happy colorful design, simple yet full of joy and life. It had a funny title "Red Cloud Sunset". I remember that by the end of the 7th day I could wait to see the final score. Oh the excitement! And there it was ladies and gentlemen, 2.43 out of 5! I was so happy. I was back on track. Finally a good score. This only pushed me to do better. The reviews where in, there where many people who liked the design. Some good comments, other people with certain doubts. But I was happy never the less.

That december, one day before christmas I received a mail. I could not believe my eyes. Could this be true?? Am I dreaming? Is this some sort of trick my mind is playing on me due to high amount of christmas punch I had been drinking the night before? It was an email from Santashimala! and it said; Threadless would like to print your submission, Red Cloud Sunset! I WON! I WOONN!!! Dear lord... I won the Threadless competition! I froze for a second, nearly died of the excitement. My heart was beating so hard that it nearly popped out of my heart (yes, double heart for extra safety just like tonteau said). I regained my breath and replied the mail that same second. Back then the Prize was $500 ($400 cash and $100 Store credit) I was so happy. It was the best christmas gift ever. My goal that year had been accomplished.

My Red Cloud Sunset tee was finally out! As soon as it was out I ordered a copy of my design. Along with that I got You sank my battleship, Jc was a streaker, candy for baby and the 80s rock. It was the start of a grand year. I submitted a total of 16 designs. All with fairly good scores. One of them an all time scorer - Time Fades with an average score of 3.66 out of 5! I had 3 shirts printed that year. It was really great!

I won twice out of a total of 11 design which I submitted that year. They both came close together, one after the other. 1984 Gran Hermano and Exotica. Apart from the good, we had a mayor tragedy at the threadless blogs. The machines took control and deleted every single blog in the whole system! It was the Great Blog Disaster of 2006!

Props to your, Mr Label.

By the way, what camera do you use? I was perving on your flickr photos, and you are too talented for your own good.

Thank you very much. I use a Nikon D40. Its an amazing camera, great for those who are starting out in the DSRL world. And I think right now you can actually get the D40 for around $450 or if you want the latest D40x its for $700... I think.

Ooooh....my mother today told me that she'd had enough of me stealing the family camera, and that I had to buy my own...

I wish to point out however, that my family never uses the camera, and when they do, this is the sort of photo quality they get out of it:

I don't consider myself a pro or anything, but come on!

Anyway, I could totally afford that. One of my friends is a camera salesman. Maybe he could do me a deal.

Thanks, Sam!

You're one of the best, and the way you expressed your determination over the past 5 years shows why.

Perhaps if I took a year off to gain perspective I would have a better print rate today. Of course ive only been here for less than 2 years. That would drop my submission rate from 120 to about 45 (not based on any math, just about what I assumed it would be).

What a great encouragement that you started joining threadless when you're also a teenager.

Thanks for sharing this to us! It encouraged me to do better and do more.
