Threadless

What do people think about this:

If I have a design (I do) that wasn't printed, but I'd like very much to wear, I could take it to a local screen printing shop and have them run some off for me.

As I read the Threadless rules, I can do this 90 days after I submitted my design, as long as I notify Threadless that I did so. At this point, they'll remove my design from the site.

So here's the rub. If I want to wear a shirt I submitted here, or try selling it on my own, then it disappears from this site... right? Is it worth appearing as a newb without any designs? Does that matter?

Has anyone on here taken their designs down and sold/printed them elsewhere?

it doesn't actually disappear from the site. i think they had planned to do that at one point, but i think people take rejected designs and sub or print them elsewhere so much that it'd be too difficult to keep up.

Suppose it wasn't rejected... just not printed?

All you need to do is e-mail Threadless and ask for them to release the design. Then you can do whatever you want with it.

not printed = a nicer way of saying "rejected" :p

@canadianbeaver

What happens when they release the design? This goes back to my original question: does it disappear?

No. All but the top row of mine have been released and local companies have asked to print them. Be careful though. Most of them are full of shit.

Designs you print elsewhere don't get taken off, but seriously, absolutely nobody would care anyway if you had no subs to your name.

Oh, that's odd, they removed one of mine, it got printed at another place. So you don't need to notify em if you get it printed somewhere else? Cause it's always nicer to have a couple more subs to show in your profile here.

Several contacts have asked for my work, even taken files from me, even printed... but then the follow through has not been there.

I have an inventory of great shirts for a gift show in November, but that is under my control and a one shot deal.

The shirt business is not for the mild of heart or the shallow pocket.

Follow-through? Like they never delivered their shirts? I remember working with two different t-shirt places in high school (club shirts) and getting screwed both times.

What is it with those places? Screen-printing seems like a weird area for buffoonery.

Mostly a wannabe!

I enjoy the soaring highs and crushing lows of all creative efforts (cooking, music, design) in spite of their inherent instability. Or... because of their inherent instability?

Thanks!
