Hey I've been trying to figure out how you can manage to get the watercolor effect with only 3 colors. I'm guessing it's not a vector image...?

imcompa- Thanks! To answer your question. My process started on watercolor paper, then from a pencil drawing, to a micron pen. Then I did a multi-colored watercoloring. From there it gets scanned into photoshop and put into a doutone using three colors. I guess that would not be a duo but trio-tone, yeah. Hope that helps.

it's absolutely gorgeous. i saw it at as a combination of a geisha and a flamenco dancer. which is amazing considering i'm studying both japanese & spanish. . . regardless, it's incredible.

Thanks ccllaarree! That's cool you are studying those, japanese is a tough language to get a hang of. It's funny, I ended up thinking this illo was more spanish and was gonna scrap it before inking and painting it. Glad I didn't.

When I saw this design back in November, I immediately noticed it looks extremely similar to a painting by my favorite artist, Claude Monet's "La Japonaise." You can see it here: http://www.monet-on-canvas.com/prod117.htm Even though it is one of Monet's less famous works, I recognized the design immediately because I made a pen and ink drawing of this painting in one of my art classes many years ago. Although I didn't comment when this shirt was first printed, I still feel I should point it out. Coincidence? Inspiration? Just a thought...

raulsgal - Thanks for the comment. It's a coincidence, no doubt. This piece was made from my imagination, that and I drew inspiration from a character 'Autumn' from 'Blackout', a 3 volume comic I illustrated and designed with writer Jay Beane. We only have volume one done as I haven't had time to push too far into the second chapter due to paid work.
