Hibernature - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

So I've been working on this for a bit, and I can't decide which color direction I want to go in. I know I could put up both when I sub, but I prefer to just offer one option if there's a strong opinion one way or the other on what's more wearable.

Any other feedback is also always welcome. The coloring is still a bit rough and will be cleaned up. Working title is "The Longest Sleep". What do you think? Anyone?

The first one - the image is just clearer for me.

Great design, by the way.

#1 for me, there's a more immediate depth to the scene. Bear mountain is another obvious title. Quality work.

The first one is definitely clearer. The second one is also nice, but the trees are a little lost against the dark background.

Hmm, thanks. I could always tweak the trees so that they show up more against the brown. I like the lighter one as an illustration - it is clearer, but I wonder if the brown tones maybe work better as a tee?

Garo, Bear Mountain is actually the file name right now... we used to go ice skating there when I was a kid. Didn't look anything like this one though.

#2 for me. I can seee it a bit better.

However, I am slightly color blind, so maybe I'm not the best judge for this type of thing.

I like the second more, but the trees definitely need to be more visible.

Number one for me so you can keep the greenery :)

or you can posted the adjusted second.. I think it can also work

I hear 'hibernature'

This is just lovely, clyde

Thanks guys! I'll work on adjusting the second version. I'll include the first as a print option.

Hmm, ivejustquitsmoking, I like the sound of "Hibernature". I may just have to use that!

cool! Glad I can help :)

I see wrong grammar in my comment :))

If you continue with the second version:

You could try to make the trees a different, lighter color, for instance more orangey brown.

They're trees alright, but they don't have to be green (in my humble opinion) to come across as trees.

Maybe just mess with the colours regardless of what things look like in real life, and pick the ones that work best for the tee. You can totally get away with that sort of thing.

   littleclyde on Aug 21 '08 at 9:03am
Thanks gumbo, I agree, no need to feel wedded to realistic colors. Though I do want to keep earthy tones. I may also try to bring the trees out a little with some highlights, we'll see. Which color scheme do you like better personally?

man. #1 is super.

thedarrien on Aug 21 '08 at 9:10am
the first one for sure. I am not fond of the second at all, I don't know why.
gumbolimbo
   gumbolimbo on Aug 21 '08 at 9:11am
I lit the top one best now, but the bottom one could work well too, when adjusted. The light blue tones of the water contrast nicely with the brown of the shirt. I'd like to see more of that colour coming back in the rest of the design maybe? The trees on the bottom one are too lowly contrasted now. They need some work.
gumbolimbo
   gumbolimbo on Aug 21 '08 at 9:12am
The trees might benefit from being lighter than the bear in the bottom one, rather than darker?

#1 is great.

Thanks sonmi and darrien! Seems like the lighter color is getting more love. It has more of that wistful mood I was going for, though I really wanted to do a dark shirt design for a change of pace.

gumbo, you're right about the trees needing to be lighter if I go with the brown. Maybe I'll stick with the lighter one as the main sub though - first instincts and all...

Great idea and the rendering (not even done) looks terrific. I'm definitely a fan of the first. I think it's more eco-projective, (can't think of a better word). The brown kind of silhouettes the bear and doesn't allow the viewer to imagine as large a landscape around the bear as the green does. Maybe keep the 3 greens of the trees and grass and add a bit of brown to the green in the bear? Also, the water coming from the bears eye looks more natural on the greens, the brown color offers a much sharper contrast and looks kind of radio active. (Just one opinion). Anyway, great work, I would guess there's going to be a lot of 5s on this one, given the top-of-mind subject matter and the way you've thought it out and rendered it.

I think the first one is the best. Cracking design. Really like it. Congrats on the monsterous score for your Democracy sub. I reckon you stand a very good chance of getting that mother printed. If has a definite 'threadless' feel. Nice one mate

1 for me, another great one, Michelle.
quister
   quister on Aug 21 '08 at 10:04am
You know I just looked at "Bird house" again and you have those background clouds that just melt into the shirt but really work to convey a greater depth of field. Maybe that would look as good on this one.

Agree with Dale, fantastic democracy sub, I can definitely see that rocking on a Jones soda label just as it rocks on a tee. Great score!!

Oh excellent, I step away from the computer for just a minute and I get all these very helpful comments! Thanks all!

quister, very insightful as usual - I actually do have a blobby cloud mass for the lighter version (it didn't look good with the brown, so I left it off for now) that may go back in. I guess I'll finish off number one and sub by the weekend.

Thanks for the kind words on the democracy sub Dale - obviously I'm hoping for the best with that one, but there are so many quality 3+ designs to compete with nowadays *cough*Hector*cough* that it's definitely not a sure print by any means. But one can always hope!

I $5'd your democracy sub, so I'm hoping it gets printed. haha

But I definitely like the first one more. The trees stand out more, and the colors work nicely together.

For the brown one, some colors seem forced in a way. For example, the blue water coming from the eye doesn't seem to mesh as well as it does on the grey one.

   againstbound on Aug 21 '08 at 10:40am
Hahaha, thanks but I think you have me beaten in the score.

And I'm not competing with you for the democracy prize. In fact I didn't even sub anything for it cause I wanted you to win, and I knew if I subbed something no one else would have a chance, because, you know how it is ;)

Thanks Madshadow!

Hector, I was totally waiting for some stroke of democracy brilliance from your corner, but now I understand. You probably would have won all three prints and the rest of us would have been left weeping in the corner, damning your monopoly of great design. Which wouldn't have been very democratic at all. So your noninvolvement was probably the best sub ever. You win again!

I like both color schemes. Leaning a little bit more towards the first one. The first one works fine. The second one needs a little bit more work; lighter trees, a little bit more contrast and highlights, maybe more of that really light orange... but definitely sub both.

Oh hello! Thanks so much for the feedback. I've decided to drop the dark version and go with the lighter one on sand and on olive. I also added a little subtle cloud action in the background. I think I'm going to sub like this unless there's anything else that needs changing?
