Here's a question:

At what time did you realize that drawing was what you wanted to do?

For me, it was only about a month ago. I'm currently teaching English in South Korea, after taking a film studies degree mainly because I like films and didn't know what I wanted to do in the future.

As I got less and less enamoured with work, I noticed I started doodling more and more. I was hit with a wave of inspiration, and of realization - this is what I love to do!

After dropping out of art in school because I didn't like the way it was taught, I took to doodling occasionally but mainly forgetting it. Picking up the pencil recently, I know now that this is what I want to do.

How about you? Whether you're a professional artist, aspiring artist, or just love to draw, at what moment did you realize that this is what you have to do?

Inspired, in part, by my design currently up for scoring:

What Time Is It? - Threadless T-shirts, Nude No More

how do you like teaching in south korea?

Teaching is amixed bag- the kids can be great or.. not, and it's a private school that basically does what it wants.

But south korea? Amazing country, very different and yet similar to the west, fun language, cool people and delicious food!

Yeah I plan on moving in the future to some random country and teaching english for awhile too, I just am unsure of how good a teacher I will be :/ How long did it take you to learn the language? Or did you know some before moving? And when how long have you been there? Just curious.

also I really like your design a lot :)

oh and also how did you wind up there? Did you just go there first and found the job only after arriving? Or did you have something set up before leaving?

Yeah the appeal to me was just pick up and choose a random country on the map. Pfft I'm really not a good teacher, just learn a few words of the language, something about the culture, for example music- Super Junior and the like, yes (one of my students has an unhealthy obsession for them) and of all fails, give them candy and voilą! You're a great teacher!

I've been here 10 months, leaving jan with my awesome Korean girlfriend back to England! Wish me luck. I learnt a bit of the language, as of now I can read it and say the essentials, but it's true-English is everywhere! Hope that helps, I have to go teach now!

i think i knew it all along. i just forgot. maybe a little like you, although i have been drawing all my life. but then, recently i after doing only collages and paintings for a few years i re-discovered my love for drawing and i think i'm getting to the core of it. finding my comic-based roots and enjoying every little tiny step of it.

asdfghaya (catchy name ,btw), Super Junior did 'Sorry, Sorry, right?' I don't really listen specifically to K-pop, but when you're in Korea you can't really help but hear it in every store, on every street corner, every hour, of every day! It gets in your head and won't leave!

sausage moe, thanks for answering my question! Yeah I agree, I've always ben drawing but somehow I forgot that I love doing it! And it's always great to do something that makes you happy, even if that's just having a big cup of tea and peanut butter on toast. Man I'm hungry..

Hey olie!, please ask away. I just looked at your site, and wow! I love your style, your great colours and especially humour :)

And yeah it was totally worth it! For any problems I have i look at friends of mine from uni who are still working at a bar doing something they hate and I think 'I totally did the right thing'.

Pfft, Sorry Sorry is so old, it's all about Chocolate Love by Girls Generation. Songs which double as adverts for mobile phones FTW!

Well you see, in Korea, that is totally old. Girls Generation were completely over the hill(no single since spring?!) until like two weeks ago when there new song came out. Koreans can be very fickle when it comes to their music.

All about me

Likes: Drawing, sleeping, pressing the snooze button, coming home from work, going to the cinema, listening to a great new song, a cup of tea and a biscuit, cold pizza, buying things I don't need, being in bed, Christmas Day, reading a good book before I go to sleep, holding the door open for someone and them saying thank you, finding money, sneezing, being ill and only then realising how good it feels to be healthy, toys, listening to loud music, completing a computer game, looking at a great piece of art and being in awe of it then jealous that I couldn't make something like that, reading theories about Lost, not being able to sleep because you keep rattling off new ideas, being tired but not going to bed then realising two hours have passed since I intended on going to bed, procrastinating in general, having nothing to do, having something to do and doing it then feeling like you can do whatever you want now because you've just done something productive, actually managing to finish a picture, seeing good comments about something you spent a lot of time on, eating a big dessert because I deserved it after eating a healthy meal, writing lists of things I like, putting things in alphabetical order, that moment when someone walking towards you tries to get out of your way and you try to get out of theirs but just end up staying in each others' way, fresh bed sheets, turning over the pillow to the cold side, that first cold drink in a day where you can feel it going down your throat into your stomach.
