You need a combination of things, like a good score, a high number of "I'd buy it" votes, a good buzz and the approval of Threadless staff.

Right.. OK.. I think I pissed too many people off for that..

Oh well, I stuck to my guns.

I still think theyre pricks

Well, Not all of em..

Some of them were just fun.

I miss Kizokou. I hated him.

Anyone else remember him?

I'm trying I really am, but people really have been self rightous, anal and down right nasty to me.

So whats wrong with having a little fun with them?

I'm not really as angry as I sound.

And you cant say that its not ammusing

eladear on Jan 25 '08 at 12:06pm
If you send out the wrong message, then you get comments as you have received. A little too much sarcasm isn't necessarily amusing every time. You obviously need to speak your mind, defend your design...but don't take things so personally. Some people will like your work, others won't. The point being you can't please every single person. :)

I remember kizokou! But I only got through page 1 of the infamous blog and then it was deleted :-(

It's hard to say why certain designs get printed. There are some obvious ones where it looks like a "Threadless design", but there are also those random wild cards that I'd never have guessed to be picked up. And the scores don't always reflect that. Threadless is quite the enigma!

I'm actually appalled and disgusted. I'm thinking I might just leave this stupid site all together. Has anyon else seen "The Giving Tee"?

It got a hiher score than my design. What the F**K?

It's just a T shirt with A GRID on it!

Piss wank balls and shit
valorandvellum
   valorandvellum on Jan 25 '08 at 10:07pm
Nah, don't lose hope!

I think you make some really great artwork... maybe you could try doing something that has the shirt (and how it will look when worn) composition in mind from the get go. With your style in mind, people tend to like the big designs that cover a lot of the shirt. I dunno, something to think about. :-)

The giving Tee was submitted for a particular competition called ¨revolution¨. It explores other possiblitites and yes, it´s simple but experimental, which is ultimately the point of that competition.

I understand your frustration but believe it or not this is a healthy aspect of your evolution as a designer. It´ll give you a thicker skin and fuel to do better stuff. Wish you the best of luck!

What classicoke said. The weird thing is, the highest score I ever got (3.11) was for a sub that never got printed. Ha! And such is the mystery that we call Threadless.

I usually just check out how many comments a design gets. You don't get to know how many "I'd Buy Its" a design receives. Even if the design doesn't score very well, if there's a lot of buzz about it I think it still has a good chance at getting printed.

For instance, they've printed plenty of designs that scored in the low 2's. Maybe a lot of people hit "I'd Buy It". Or maybe someone on the Threadless staff just liked it a lot. Who knows.

I'm likley to have threadless staff crasing through my windows on zip lines any minute.

If I dont get the chance to talk to any of you again tell them I died peacefully in my sleep. Spread the truth, but please tell them I died in my sleep. I dont think they can handle it

just remember that threadless has been at this t-business a long time and have an infinite wisdom of what not only looks good on a shirt but also what will please a lot of customers. it isn't as though the voter's opinions don't matter, we just don't have the very last say on the print. honestly though, there's really no point in being bitter this early in the game. design for the sake of enjoying what you do. even if you don't get a print out of the deal, you learn a massive amount and instantly have your art viewed by thousands of people. so really, you've already won.

chelly speaks the truth magpie

plus i would like to add:

Looking at all the amazing talent (you cannot deny this) that does not get printed -thew only logical conclusion you can come to is that no one is entitled to a print just because their design is fantastic -

what they said. Annnnnd...it´s a competition, a lot of people will be nice to you and really helpful...but ultimately they are also competing against you.

that's the truth right there. this should be viewed as just another arena for your art. the creating should be the most pivotal part, then the viewership and that relationship and then, if you're lucky, some cash monies.
