hi there,

i just can't find infos about what an design, done with illustrator, must be like to be printable. the guidelines for photoshop pixeldesigns are clear: 300 dpi, each color on a seperate layer.

do i have to seperate colors in illustrator as well?
whats files does threadless accept? ai as well? or do they convert vectorfiles into pixels by themselves and create their layers for the colors? if yes, how are they doing that?

thx

For vector, you do not need to separate colors to layers, and I've sent just the .ai file in the past.

Not sure what they do, but illustrator has a print option that separates and overprints for each spot color.

yea, no need for separating the colors and the size doesnt really matter since vector will scale infinitely.

i'm sure they'd accept .ai, .pdf, or .eps as long as its all good vector art

and is it also ok to use patterns in illustrator? or do you have to convert them into paths?

i'm sure it's safe to use default patterns, but i was expand any custom patterns you've put together.

when you expand is it forever?

my work is all vector if i scan it in and use live trace, then pen tool shapes for colors...right?!
