Alright, so when I begin using Illustrator, everything seems fine and dandy. I draw a line, and it looks nice. However, things go wrong with my second line. If the line is even CLOSE to my first line, it will instead of becoming a new line, replace the old one. This is intensely frustrating, and I don't understand how anyone can use the program when it does this. Please HALP!

double click the pencil tool



uncheck 'edit selected paths'

are you using the brush tool?



if so, just double click on the icon to bring up the properties pallet and uncheck "edit selected path"



...this is all from memory. i havent used illustrator in forever

(I assume you're using paintbrush tool for this)



just double click the paintbrush icon and unselect "Edit Selected Paths"
