ok I know this is a really general question... but is there any advice you can give me for my first submission?

like - if you could summarize some steps to success? I don't really know if i'm heading in the right direction and I'd really like to get a good shot at this. I did a really detailed sketch, in pen, put in on the computer, edited it a bit and stuck it on some of the templates. Is that all there is to it?

also - Is there really a fair chance to get selected for print? I've heard that it can be a bit of a popularity contest...

umm....first, post it up in the critiques, then post a link to that critique in this blog. That way, people know what you're bringing to the table, and can give you more pointed advice.

Submit it to critique first, to get feedback and improve as much as you can. If there were clears step to success I wouldn't share them, and I would be printed already.

And it's not a popularity contest, but constantly submitting great designs does give you some popularity.

Some of us have gotten prints from our first subs, so it's not completely a popularity contest. Although it does seem like they have some favorites :-)

i do have a specific question... how do you put your image on on of the models shirts... like how do you make it look natural with the folds and contours of the shirt?

Lower the opacity of the layer you have the design in. That way the shirt (folds and shadows) shows through the design a little bit.

i would say:

find your own style, be confident in your submissions, dont get discouraged by critiques (don't blow them off either, they can help!), take the time to fix and resubmit designs....and lastly submit as many as possible for the best chance at success! good luck!
