This happened last night. I don't even know how it happened but I cut up my foot on something and needed 7 stitches. It didnt' even hurt really, it was just gushing blood everywhere like a geyser so after it didn't stop I had to go to the hospital for the first time. Is it normal that someone waits 23 years for their first trip? Dunno, either way I liked it haha. Yeah so tell your stories if you care :)

Seven stitches is impressive. I've never had one.

Blood tends to get you rushed straight through. I was knocked unconscious by a cricket ball to the face and had to sit in emergency for 2 hours with concussion because it didn't look bad. Another time, a burst blood vessel in the eye (totally harmless) and I was rushed straight in. Was kinda funny, the desk nurse was totally unconcerned by my lack of trauma until I lifted my eyelid. She freaked and ran to get a doctor.

Eep! Glad you are ok, sounds like you were very brave!

I had to go to the burns unit when I was about 10 months old and then I had to have stitches in my head when I was 4. I haven't been since I was about 17 and my horse trod on my foot and broke my toe.

I only really remember the last time, although I got an awesome postman pat book for the head injury!

I have a feeling gushed blood is very hard to clean up...

I'm not sure how many I might have been to if there'd been a (safe) hospital nearby when I was a kid but I only lasted 10 years (give or take a couple of weeks).

Only for a concussion I received during a hockey game ten or twelve years back. I think that is the only time...though the knock could have wiped out prior memories.

I've never been to the hospital as an emergency (i spent some days before to remove my tonsils)

it's crazy that some people go to the emergency when they have a cold or rubbish like that.. they make people with real emergencies (like yours) wait forever..

I was born in the hospital

I broke my left leg once

I broke my right leg once

That's about it I guess

Hmm..My parents told me I was hospitalized at 2 years old for pneumonia :P Of course, I wasn't able to remember a thing. The next time they had to put dextrose on me was when I was 11 but they had to do it at home. Anyway, hope your foot's healing well :)

man, i have not broken a bone in 24 years! but i have had a serious frontal lobe injury pole vaulting, i was heliflighted to the hospital for 5 days gettin' hot nurse sponge baths and cat scans, then spent three weeks in bed waiting for my brain to stop moving in the fluid in my skull. my center, my chi, my equilibrium was all jacked up! i was 18, and it ruined my track season. oh, and the doc said that i could be dumber or have an altered character, or maybe problems in general. i was hopped up on hospital candy, it is all a blur now. stitches and scars are for the tuff! hope the foot heals all good and $h!t!

Now it's my knee lol. I may need to get arthroscopic surgery if I ever want to run again. I wanted to make a blog about this too but decided against another "Boo hoo me" blog.

jeez! thats crazy!

when i was about 16, i stepped on a sewing needle and it went right thru the bone on the bottom of my foot (in the middle arch part) when i tried to pull it out, only half came out! the other half was lodged into the bone. Long story short, i had surgery, a cast couldnt walk on it for a while..

the day i go in to get the cast taken off, i go home and do a cartwheel in the living room (wtf i know. i was in gymnastics, i was excited) anyways, did a cartwheel, hit the tv and bursted a vein on the top of the same foot...the foot turned all sorts of gross colors instantly and was spreading fast. whats funny is i couldnt feel it....or stand on it, lol

It is probably the earliest period in my life that i can recall being embarassed and understanding why i felt that way...

try explaining to the Dr who preformed the surgery weeks earlier and who just finised removing your cast how you managed to do all of this in a 2 hour time frame.

I was at a party once and sitting on a railing, when my girlfriend thought it would be "funny" to pretend to push me off. She came up and pushed me... The railing snapped. As I was falling a grabbed at her to keep from falling. I fell about 12 feet onto the back of my neck into some jagged rocks and broken glass. She landed on top of me, bending me in half. Cracked two vertebra, broke some ribs, a few compressed discs, had two big chunks of flesh missing from my neck and shoulder.

That's was like 8 years ago now and I still have pain everyday! I think the only way I avoided breaking my neck is that I was kinda drunk at the time. My spine is currently bending forward, to the right and turning counterclockwise. Because of that, it makes a rib dislocate. That's the worst that ever happened to me. Not much a doc can do, short of sticking a rod in my spine.... ack. No way.

I wish you a speedy recovery!

GAH! DAVE! THAT'S INSANE! That sucks that you're still in pain :( I know what you mean about being drunk saving you from injury, though.

Someone donated me a horse, and I got on him. He reared, so I smacked him and then he flipped, totes 180, landing on top of me. Nothing happened, I had to go to shock trauma because both my lungs were collapsed and I had a pneumathorax in one lung. That was this summer, and I seriously think that ever since then, my back as been better (it was messed up previously from a car accident).

Aside from the pain, shock trauma was the most fun I've had in awhile.
mooseinmyshoe
mooseinmyshoe on Mar 14 '10 at 3:19pm
Oh, but before that, I went to the hospital for my first and 4th concussion (my 6th one was from this summer's episode, so I was already there)

Damn! That's crazy! You one tough Sarahmoose! Collapse lungs!? Bad, when I got folded in half I got all the air knocked out of me. That was scary. Can't even imagine what you felt like! Sweet jebus!

Glad you're, you know, still with us!

Hospitals seem to think that if anything they do takes less than 3 hours they are doing it wrong.

I've been to hospital for laser surgery on my throat - removal of a birthmark that looked like vegemite, and I'd try to lick it off and never could..was only 4 at the time..And then there was the broken right metatarsal - the bone running along the outer edge of the foot, broke that wearing high heels and wobbling on a rock walking downhill..they didn't think it was broken at first and I got the shits with the woman rocking on her connected plastic waiting room chair cos it hurt..Then I was in hospital for an abseiling injury..I arrogantly took off down the side of the cliff without properly doing up the rope to run through the figure 8. Crashed into the cliff and had 18 metres or so drop that I watched from a tiny ledge as the 10mm gash in my leg dripped blood..nice big scar there now, had to wear plastic skin and couldn't swim on my holiday at the beach..broke my right armbone very close to my elbow last October, standing posing on a waterfall rock...slipped and banged it so hard it fractured..Yeah..I've been to hospital and thats the major incidents..
