So, I came home for literally one night yesterday to visit my parents and this shit happens. I always lock my car, always. Anyway, this morning I got into my car and noticed my iPod was not inside the center console where I always put it. I figured maybe I took it inside the house for some reason (later realizing it's not in the house). There seemed to be no sign of a break in. Well later on tonight I realized I had other things I brought back with me from school including a lock box containing my new Nikon D300 (plus 2 Nikkor lenses) and Nikon Coolpix S60 as well as my social security card and other camera accessories. Well as I ran out to check my car luck betrayed me and allowed all of those things to be stolen too. So along with my 40 gig iPod, that's about $2000 - $2500 down the drain for a poor college student who's still looking for a summer job. Could life get any worse? *sigh*

:(

Has anyone been robbed like this before?

if you have renters/homeowners insurance it may cover the personal property in the vehicle minus a deductible of course.

hopefully you have receipts / documentation show the purchase of said stolen items?

and yeah... I too have experience this joy a couple times... once my college text books where stolen cause my g/f failed to lock the passenger door when she got out and I didn't notice that she didn't lock her door.

again cause I didn't listen to my gut and instead listened too my buddies and parked in a area I was not comfortable parking in to begin with....wasn't even anything in the damn car but some jerk broke the window to find that out.

and infront of my house in seattle...this time they did like $1800 damage to my car which ended up in the shop for over a week to steal a $250 stereo.

so now I have an alarm and detatch the face plate from my stereo anywhere and everywhere including my house and set the alarm.

oh yeah... I **think my vw bug got broke into once or I left the door open cause it seemed like stuff was gone thru but nothing was missing apparently the stock 1973 volkswagon am radio wasn't too temping =p props to those vw bug theives cause they either slimjimmed the lock without damage or rattled the vent window open (which is a trick I had to use once or twice after locking my keys inside the car.

Nope nothing was insured but I do have all the reciepts and whatnot. I've filed a police report already.

maddingo- that's terrible to hear. You've been hit up twice. I will definitely think twice about anything I leave in my car. But really, where I live nothing like this ever happens. Thieves...what a bunch of scumbags.

Duracell - Yes, that's what I'll do. Then I'll leave it in my car, unlocked, marked "Steal this".........I'm glad you find this situation hilarious.

Yeah i left the keys inside my car and some 16 year old delinquent girls stole it, danced on it (huge dents in the roof) and wrote lame graffiti all over the interior. The cops found them on their lawn taking my plates off the back.

sorry duracell, I thought you were making light of the situation. I was actually going to leave it at the rents' house for the reason you stated. There was no need to have it on me and put it in the box figuring I'd have a greater chance of losing my wallet (if I put it there) rather than a lockbox. lol it's funny how that turned out.

I don't see how people can honestly go around looking to break in peoples cars for a living. I've tried putting myself if their shoes but I still can't see why and how they can be fine with such behavior.
Tikimasters
Tikimasters on May 15 '09 at 1:30am
mgill52, you have a reason to be. I was NEVER worried about it haha. I'd leave my doors unlocked if I went to a gas station/etc or somewhere when I'd be out quickly. Now I'm going to be paranoid forever.

My house was broken into less than a year ago and my Fuji Finepix S5 SLR was stolen along with a small video camera and some DVDs. It was terrible, but I tried to look on the bright side that my wife and daughter weren't home at the time. But from then on we were paranoid and if we left the house, we'd return less than 30 minutes later just to check on it - we did this for about a month and then just remained very cautious ever since. Luckily, we've moved into a much better neighborhood since then.

Sorry to hear about your loss off equipment. I have the Nikon D300 too and keep meaning to call my insurance company to get renters insurance to make sure it's covered.

man that sucks so much. when i was like 5, my mom was driving a Camaro, and we went to the library for like 10 minutes after buying a movie for me and a bunch of food for a party. when we came out, the car, along with all of our purchases, was gone. it was never found.

I had my first car broken into three times. I had clothes, my entire cd collection and my camera stolen the first time. The second time my stereo was stolen. My second car was entirely stolen and the $8k stereo was ripped out of it as well as rims, back seat, center console, head and tail lights and the air conditioning ducts (wtf??) and then the car was abandoned. They took my Elliot Smith cd OUT of the center console and threw it on the floor of the car, too, so they were assholes AND had poor taste in music.

My best friend had her brand new CD player that her boyfriend got her stolen while she was at work. On her birthday.

My car has been completely stolen twice... yes, the same car, twice. Once was late at night, the second time in broad daylight. Each time the car was found less then a mile away in about a day or so. Both times my awes0me stereos where stolen... and the second time it was stolen it cost me my job at the time. So I feel your pain man. Thieves freaking suck.

And I still have that darn car lol (although I have to use The Club where ever I go).

sorry to hear that. had it happen to me before too. lost over $2500 worth of stuff (I'm terrible at keeping my car clean) alot of stuff some one of a kind stuff I couldn't replace. they also got my cd case with every article of music I've ever owned in it which really sucked because i always bring it in with me but i had groceries to carry so figured it would be safe stuffed under my seat just that once. some of my cd's were rare obscure punk stuff i couldn't replace, a cd of my younger brothers music, and a cd that my fiance and I danced to a our high school prom..

so the theives smashed up my windows pretty badly scratched up my passenger door threw my registraton papers all over the place dumped soda on the carpets and left nasty gum wrappers all over my car. (totally gross to do to anyone but my car was less than a year old) And to top it all off the san francisco police department was 'too busy' to come down and look at the crime or even bother to fingerprint the crap the thief left in my car. i had to go to the station myself and file a report. so my stuff was gone and the police didn't even try to find the thief.

luckily i had renters insurance which covered most of my losses except for the CD's which were not covered for some reason.

I hope you get your stuff back. I'd also reccommend renters insurance if you can get it, i get mine throught he same company i get my car insurance from and its only like $10 more a month and covers stuff inside your car when it is parked as well as any break-ins that may happen to the property you rent from.

*sigh*

I got an expensive GPS for my 18th birthday from my parents (3 years ago they were priced ridiculously high)... best present ever because Oz is humungo and I can barely tell left from right.

Anyway I always took it down when I left the car. Went to meet some friends for lunch in Parra and some dirty buggers must have spotted the suction cap mark on my windscreen. They smashed in my window.

So not only did I end up with no GPS but I had to spend hours cleaning all the glass out and $400 bucks for a new window.

So I really feel for you mate :(

But you got printed! So thats $500 at least to give you a bump in the right direction.

yeah it sucks man. My home got robbed once man. They didn't manage to take alot of things but all our doors and windows were open at the ground floor. Even though they didn't take much (apart from my brand spanking new Dr. Martens 8 eyes) you feel violated and vulnerable and insecure because someone walked in your house while you were sleeping and you didn't even know
