I know moan moan moan. God someone is always moaning - there are too many designs up at the moment - I'm sick of patterns - this scoring contest is hurting our scores - bla bla bla.

But seriously the scores do seem low. When ever I score someones sub I look at the score and I think hay?
Then I look at my latest subs and I think Oh :(

My scores are usually pretty low. Sometimes for a good reason, sometimes not so. But I'm at peace with threadless right now.

I don't take as a much notice of score as amount of comments. Of late my designs seem to die the death of a thousand trees in a thousand forests after an initial flurry. It makes me think I should be using Tumblr or something. Or probably I should just give Threadless the elbow and do my own thing.

Good for you Tonts :)

Matt you can't give up now you are only just getting started!
Yes not doing the tumblr thing either, cant deal with further procrastinations.

I hear you on the procrastinating - Twitter - check, Blog - check, FlickR - check... I already feel like a massive ungainly prostitute rubbing my saggy weeping tits over all and sundry!

Sorry - that sentence is a bit grim but it made me laugh.

I'll jump on the bandwagon and add there are hardly any comments either, right? I gave up on scores long ago. Plenty of good stuff that bombs and plenty of not-so-great stuff that flies. Scoring seems rather redundant these days. Still, I feel fine/nothing about this now. :-/

I do know what you mean. I'm trying a few new things with my subs, and I'm usually pretty chuffed with the finished thing when I sub it. I think my chuffedness is clouding my judgement. It's like I'm happy because something came out the way I wanted it to, but I'm realising that just that doesn't make it good.

I'm sick of promoting stuff, it's such a repetitive chore for little no reward. Stuff like one note on tumblr!

Ha ha - I did a drinking-laugh-snort to that. Good work. It was worth me coming on here for the eleventh time today.

both of my 10k subs got worse scores than my first sub on this site, I guess that's to be expected though, when there's 10k involved people aren't exactly gonna go easy on you..either that or my subs were just shitty, haha

Do people really 0 the competition to better their odds?
that is so low!
Musarter
Musarter on Nov 10 '11 at 11:18am
That theory sounds possible for the 10K subs but does not explain the low scores in the general subs. It seems the well know artist, who do awesome work, always get 3+ and everyone else, even if there work is great, is lucky to get 2.75. Now I am wining again.

Is 3.0 once again considered a high score?

Whats considered a high or sub-par score changes so much.

Yeah, until someone metioned it, it never even entered my mind that people might think like that. So strange.

i dunno. scores seem pretty normal, but i do kinda agree with the comments thing. and sometimes i think more comments weighs more than a higher score.

scores are about 0.1 to 0.2 lower than perhaps 3 months ago so not much difference really
Tonteau
   Tonteau on Nov 10 '11 at 11:37am
3.00+ used to be like the holy grail of scores back in 2005/6. People regularly got 2000+ votes/scores, so it makes sense that the agregate score would be lower. But the promotion thing, like tumblr, facebook and twitter didn't really happen so much back then.

I can see it's really fucking up your print potential!
The Paper Crane

I am not convinced Aaron. Are you basing those figures on your own submissions?
I have seen a noticeable difference in a very short time frame, say a week or so.
Few subs are getting above 3, just a select few and designs that I would expect to be in the high 2s at least are under 2.5.

We need a proper statistician on the case. Where is opifan64 when you need him?

Well 3.0 always seems a good bench mark but I know it far from guarantees anything. There was a time not that long ago this year where the scores seemed to be getting higher at the top end.

I guess it is like everything in life - never constant, always changing, the rise and fall, bubble and bust, peaks and troughs, breath in breath out, life and death.

I never win anything. My scores are always low :D

Strangely enough, I am always optimistic with each sub. I should make a Facebook page or a blog. Or draw rainbows/ one colour prints/ cute stuff.

"Strangely enough, I am always optimistic with each sub."

Nothing odd about that - what would be the point in subbing something you didn't have much faith in?
jublin
   jublin on Nov 10 '11 at 12:35pm
This coming from the guy whose current sub is barely breaking 2, the scores always seem low. I'm used to that. NBD. I'm more surprised when I see very mundane designs getting close to breaking 4.

I'm already whining about it in another blog so I'm only commenting so I can say "I was there" later.

I usually don't have amazing scores but as low as I have this week never.

haha... I wish I had a better understanding of scores. I haven't really been on Threadless enough recently to notice any prevailing trends. I didn't even realize there was a big muppet loves contest, which prompted me to take down my own muppet sub since it seemed like a hopeless cause under the circumstances.

That said, I'm not sure the overall average score has gone down. From my brief observations it seems like the disparity between scores has increased, with a lot of subs scoring extremely high and then a lot scoring a bit lower than might be expected. The heavy hitters still seem to get their expected big scores and I see lots of designs score in the mid to high 3s which was almost unheard of a few years ago. If anything, the voting seems maybe somewhat more polarized?

I really think they should get rid of most of the score buttons. give me three buttons, that's probably what most people use anyway:
I don't like it at all, I'm neutral towards it, I want it to print.
The Paper Crane
The Paper Crane on Nov 10 '11 at 4:03pm
I think they should electrocute, via the internet, people who score more then 10 zeros in a row. Just a little one not quite strong enough to kill you.
The Paper Crane
The Paper Crane on Nov 10 '11 at 4:04pm
Well maybe 20 in a row

yeah think scoring is a bit low - but threadless is odd I will sub something I really like and it will bomb, then I will knock up a quick design and it will score well. It is really hard to work out.

Some fucker the other day gave me a 0 and told me in the comments blog.

As much as it hurts every time I see my sub sink and that's almost every sub of mine, I'm sooooo done with caring about them, I just move on, I think that's the only way to do it or I'd go insane or maybe I already am... I don't promote my stuff either, I just draw draw draw and sub sub sub;)

Somewhat related to your thought.

I think scores are declining in their relevance. Threadless is moving more towards BUYING rather than VOTING. That's what this DTG thing is all about.

If you like a design, buy it. If it sells, we print it. The more Threadless uses DTG (and they're using it more and more) the less SCORE-VOTING matters.

That's just my 2.0 cents!
Farnell
   Farnell on Nov 10 '11 at 4:27pm
yeah agree as soon as I see a sub drop low I am on to the next one. but am feeling a bit tired at the moment with lack of success on what I think have been some cool subs. For me threadless is just a bit of fun and a chance for me to get away from the commercial world and just do what I really enjoy and I always want it to stay that way.

I have looked into other sites but just can't be arsed with them at all - all seem a bit shit and to be honest anything half decent I do I wouldn't want to waste elsewhere.

The problem is once you have tasted a bit if success you want more...

I dont know, guys, i cant be objective to my own work, but I think my two designs for the 10k are finished with very good scores (3.25 and 3.14) maybe i was lucky this time.

PS On my last horror sub one person gave me about 50 zeros from one comp.

agree with most of what my bro opifan64 has to say on this. It does seem like scores are becoming more polarized, but I would say the average score must be going down. Ha ha, anyway that's how it feels to me considering my scores lately.
