UPDATED WITH PICS//Uh so I'm thinking about opening an etsy shop...

Lately I've been making sock animals, and I decided that maybe I should sell some on etsy. I'm going to make a bunch for my Girl Scouts Gold Award (stop laughing) and donate them to the children's hospital in town, but maybe selling some on etsy would give me more monies to buy awesome socks/supplies to make the ones i give to the kids more greatness.

so i have 3 questions.

1: does this sound like a good idea?
2: how much should i sell them for?
3: would anyone be interested in getting one for free (minus shipping...iz so broke)? Just request an animal and I'll see what I can do. (but it might take a while since i have to tie die the socks i already have...) You guys buying them through my etsy would make me better known and life would be goodz...

selling your creations is ALWAYS a good idea!

look at how long it takes you to produce each animal and then give yourself a certain amount per hour (10$+) and then include all of your costs for materials. don't sell yourself short!

another way to figure out a price range could be to search up other people who make home made stuffed animals on etsy and see how they are charging, compare your product to theirs, is it as well made etc, and if you can check to see if they seem to have sold any at that price range.

also mentioning that most/if not all of the proceeds will go to further making more toys for tots would help you sell some on etsy i think.

ginetteginette: i checked for other sock monkeys and stuff (that are SUPER good) and they were $30, and i thought that was kind of ridiculous.

synecdoche: umm, am not 100% sure on the requirements, i just know that i have to do a buttload of volunteer work.

30 $ is really not that steep for a home made stuffed toy. that really sounds quite fair and average seeing as they are most likely originals (because home made things are always a bit different) and are HAND MADE! people go on etsy to find items that have a special hand made touch and i think artists definitely have the right to price those accordingly, especially if it takes quite a few hours to make.

otherwise you would be working much too hard for so little, and it would be really unfair to yourself.

i think $20 plus shipping is a solid price to charge

that gives you room to put them on sale if the don't sell, but make some monies if they do

oh yeh, if you aren't actually making monkeys you'll probably make more (or can charge more) because it is easy to find sock monkeys (or a sock monkey pattern) but not so with other animals
