It's not exactly the same as my design- http://www.threadless.com/submission/29878/il_timore_della_morte,
but somehow "Life of Death" did manage to do the whole dead bird thing without being accused of being an Atticus (tm) rip off. When I did "il timore della morte" I wasn't even aware of Atticus (still tm).

Oh well...and my shirt got a slghtly higher score than this one too...

michael, has this line of thinking helped you anywhere else in life?

"I am not bad looking, but that person I want to love me likes this completley less attractive guy."

"I'm the most competant employee they have, but they like this other employee better."

"My shirt rocks compared to the other shirts, but the other shirts get printed."

The whole process just happens. It's worth trying to understand it, and if you understand it you can start to change it, but railing at it from the outside is a sure path to bad drugs and an old sleeping bag outside the parking garage.

i just feel sad for michael here. his shirt didn't get printed because it's a darn random process and something about his didn't appeal the way something about the other one did. so it goes. you gotta accept, understand, and change. whinging doesn't help.

Nor does getting four surgically implanted boobies, eoin3. No matter how dapper you think they look, they make the t-shirts stick out like you're portly in the belly way.
eoin3
eoin3 on Oct 21 '05 at 1:33am
well for your information, mr. smarty trousers, I only have one surcically implanted boobie and the other one is a half of a grapefruit stappled to my chest. so do't just go making WILD accusations and assumptons!

to address the original point here i have to say he has every right to feel cut up about it. i'd be pissed too if something similar to my own design but worse got printed ahead of me. you have to wonder though what exactly constitutes "better". i think Let the Rabbit Eat is pretty awful looking, whereas jublin's hitch-hiking rocket rabbit kicks arse, but being the better drawn rabbit didn't get jublin printed because threadless seems to prefer the naive styled designs. Same can be said of Mr Rocks. all his art is brilliant but it's not all printed.

That's what I mean. Threadless is a thing. There is a taste. If you want to get printed, you work as hard as you can to figure out that taste and excell within it (it's like writing haiku or sonnets, once you figure out the form). If you want to do your best shirts, then your print-rate is going to be hit-or-miss insofar as your aesthetic is different from the threadless aesthetic. And there's no arguing, other than to go off and set up another site with your own aesthetic.

I'm really not all that 'cut up ' about it. I don't take Threadless all that seriously.

I'm not familiar with that one. There was also a dead bird design before mine was posted. I linked to it in my comments section.

I think that your two elements in your birdie design are too far away from eachother for me to see that they tie together at all. The only similarity between them is color, and that isn't enough for them to relate (mainly because they are so far away from eachother). I also think that by using italian, you are automatically causing more confusion in your design. I don't know italian, so the quote doesn't mean anything to me, and I don't know how it relates to the bird. I also think the actual quote you are using, "the fear of death disturbs me", isn't very interesting, and just doesn't relate. Putting the quote in italian doesn't automatically make it cool, or designed. I really don't know what you are trying to say with this shirt.

As for the actual bird, I think there needs to be more contrast between the brown and black lines so that it won't look so blobby at a distance.

this design was submitted before yours, michael, so if anyone is ripping someone off it's you. do some damn research befor you go around making accusations like that.

Balty

Hey everyone, thanks for the complimenting as well as the critical comments. Im not going to argue which one is better because Im am bias towards my design, but it was selected for printing since November of 2004 and just recently was reformatted for the printer. I would have to agree that Threadless has a random way of selecting designs that almost has no correlation with the voting system
d3d
   d3d on Oct 22 '05 at 9:01pm
they pretty much claim that themselves. scores influence them to an extent but in the long run their panel of judges chose what gets printed. you could score a perfect 5 but not get printed if they decide it doesn't suit thier image.
michaelpatrick
michaelpatrick on Oct 23 '05 at 11:51pm
I would like to go on record as saying that I think Balty's design is in fact better than mine. As I said before I don't care that much about Threadless. It's aneat idea. If I were to win a prize that would be nice. I certainly am not losing any sleep about it.

If I had any bone of contention it would be that I was lambasted on the comments section of my submission for copying an idea from another clothing company (one that I had previously never heard of).

It's just a t-shirt, and just a website. To be taking it seriously enough to post a blog about it, I think you may need to take a step away from the computer and go outside for a bit. So your design got accused of being a rip-off, and this one didnt. Why is that such a big deal? If you aren't bitter, as you claim, than you wouldnt have made a blog about it in the first place. Atticus used a dead bird in their design, and so did both of you. So aren't you all ripping each other off?

tesko
   tesko on Nov 24 '05 at 8:11pm
No, wait a second. If it's just a tee shirt and just a website, why are you even bothering to post about it? If you believed what you just wrote, you wouldnt even wasted the energy typing.
*happybunny*
*happybunny* on Nov 24 '05 at 8:24pm
Did you ever stop to think about the fact that maybe I was trying to make a point? It has nothing to do with wasting energy typing. Typing really doesn't take that much energy or time. At least, not for me. Maybe it does for you. What I just wrote had nothing in it that was hypocritical, although maybe you'd like to look up the definition so you can more properly use the term next time. It would have been hypocritical for me to make that comment and then go make a post about it, which I did not.

Hey happy bunny. I'm glad you are a happy bunny. Being happy is good and so are bunnies.

Just a a quick question- if you don't think that it was worth the energy for me to write a blog about the subject (since it realy wasn't that much of a big deal to me), then why did you find it worth the effort to write a comment to my blog that was nearly TWICE AS LONG as my blog in the first place? Not to mention the fact that you must have checked back a few times just to respond to Tesko.

I think this whole discussion is more important to you than it ever was to me.
