I am proud of Threadless. After the past week of sadness as far as youknowwhat is concerned, T-less thankfully made a comeback with OMG Clothing by printing this shirt. I personally wouldn't call it the best shirt ever, but it's definitely a great one. Thanks for restoring my faith in you Threadless pirate pickers, I had a terrible feeling things were taking a turn for the worst. Two thumbs up & sorry for all that stupid drama before, I'm too young to waste my time getting mad about something that in the end doesn't matter to me but will make your company stronger. Hurrah.
Yeah the vector work is kind of sloppy. However, the day that pirates are played out is the day that I retreat from civilization and become a hermit in Mongolia.
Has anyone else had the urge to go to those movie theatres with the "No Pirates" signs in full pirate regalia just to see what they'd do?
I like the shirt too--but I'm a fan of the baseball team. The colors match the team and everything. I'll have to buy just to spite the cubs fan. You're just jealous that baby bears aren't as cool as Swashbucklers.
It takes a rare breed to be a sports fan in Chicago. Though this year is not an especially potent example. Is an exercise in masochism, because frankly if you didn't enjoy the constant punishment you couldn't survive. There have been decades where the only teams with marginally winning records were our soccer and IHL teams.
Oh now that just opened up the fresh wounds of not having an NHL season.
This shirt is an interesting concept....the pirate is visually appealing in a way. But man, looks like the businessman was crapped out in record time. His hand is weird, feet are hooves, and what's with the odd black stroke? I DO like how the pirate has negative space areas & think the business man should, too. They don't look like they belong on the same shirt. Making the whole design seems unbalanced & rushed. Also, the pirate looks like he has waded up intestines for feet.
Hey, guys. This is the artist here. And yes, I do draw Theater Hopper as my regular gig. I got lucky asking OMG if I could do a design for them. I'm just happy they decided to use it!
Many thanks to the people who have left their compliments on the design. For the critics? Eh... it's the "80/20" rule. There's always going to be 20% of the audience that won't like what you do.
Honestly, Mezo's comments aren't too far off base. Except they come from the expectation that the renderings should be photo-realistic. I intended for things to be a little sloppy - more representative and stylized. I guess it didn't communicate that way because I can see where the criticisms are coming from.
Like I said, I'm just glad OMG approved it! Theater Hopper is my full time gig and I'm just getting my feet wet when it comes to vector illustration, so it's a great honor for me.
Well congrats on getting it printed. At least we know that the rough style was intentional, though I have to agree that it doesn't strike me as being intentional at all. Now that I think about it a question mark in the world bubble next to the pirate emblem might get the idea across better.
