"A note about this product:
The all over look of this product was achieved by belt-printing the garment. The nature of this process can create minor unique imperfections in the print, most likely around neck or armpit seams where full printing contact cannot be made."

Thank you, threadless, for the notice (on the design page) a few days AFTER this design was printed. These imperfections are neither minor nor unique, instead, they are an eyesore that ruin the shirt's design , infuriates the customer, and--I would hope--offends the designer . This product was falsely advertised and I am sorry for any other customers who's products turned out just as disappointing.

Haha I SEE WHAT YOU'RE SAYING, TALIBCAPSLOCK

Well, sorry if not everybody wants those effects. You're absolutely correct about that. Some people are just perfectionists about their tees and will not accept a little bit of flaw. That's fine. I'm not saying that everybody should buy this, I'm just saying... Jesus, it's a fucking shirt. Haha.

I noticed the imperfections, and I didn't mind them. I can see why some people would be mad though...at least there is a disclaimer now.

My main issue with the shirt is that my dog jumped on me today, and ripped a small hole in the shirt. It makes me sad, but I must sew it shut.

Yes, it is a shirt... BUT as a buyer you should expect to get what you paid for.

I see what the problem is, nigar. But it's just miscommunication. Threadless assumed that the buyers would know what belt printing was, and felt that they didn't have to explain that there would be imperfections in the ink. That was a mistake on their part.

BUT, they have gone back and put a disclaimer on the page, and Skaw has just told us that they are going to post some photos of the shirt with the flaws so that people will now be able to see what they're getting before they get it.

Also, for the people who bought this prior to knowing about this, Threadless is going to work with them for an exchange or refund or whatever if they're not happy with what they got. Sure, it's frustrating to get something that you weren't expecting and have to go back to get a new tee or your money returned, but Threadless has taken note of their mistake, corrected it, and will learn from it in the future. What else can you do?

as for the getting what you paid for comment, if this was done cut + sew it would've been almost double the cost. a $16 belt print is pretty darn reasonable. just saying.

Why would it offend the designer?

They're work was considered good enough to be printed on a t-shirt. Its not like the imperfections are on purpose.

Honestly, skaw, if you're gonna take "getting what you paid for" in that sense , then i think you should advertise this shirt as something in my pictures instead of an items the models are wearing. just saying.

Even if quality is worth the price people are paying for, most people would still like to know exactly what they're buying.

lol threadless should be like a lottery everyone should just pay 10 - 20 bucks to get a random shirt

Think of it this way: They're still a company and they still need to make money/sell their stuff. Showing worst case scenario type pictures that only show the bad parts would be a major turn off and would definitely mess sales up. Instead they show it in a better light, give a warning, and show how some examples look.

At least their a company who are actually taking into account your blog and how you-and everyone else who has complained-feels about the print.

I think the disclaimer should have been up earlier. I bought the tshirt based on the photos that were shown, which were perfect.

Back when Prepare for Fight was still available there was quite a long disclaimer with photos of the possible imperfections from the discharge printing technique used (stray blue dots, registration slightly off, variations in colours).

For this one you can see that the shirts the models are wearing are definitely not perfect and have white lines around the seams and collar, but the imperfections are not obvious at first glance. Maybe a few close up shots to better prepare folks might be helpful.

I think the Prepare for Fight disclaimer was so long it opened as a new browser page, and yet the imperfections on that shirt were not nearly so obvious as on Squeegee Clean. I think my shirt has one little blue dot on it somewhere.

As an entrepreneur on ebay, i understand both sides.
nigar is rightfully angry at the poor marketeering of the product, and skew is trying to reason with him. but its been like a day and nothing has been done to the product page to better inform customers, people are still buying this shirt unknowingly of these major flaws.

To bobobob1230: There is no room for your nonsensical input in this blog.

Hey guys, just wanted to say I'm not offended in the least bit. When I submitted this design I never imagined it would be printed (even after seeing the final score) because I was aware of the complexity of the print. From what I hear, two printers refused to do the job. Whoever did end up printing it, did a mighty fine job.

I knew about the imperfections that would appear in my design because I know about the process used to produce it. When you know the outcome, it's hard put yourself in the customers shoes, who for the most part aren't knowledgeable in the industry printing techniques. They just want a cool shirt, which I completely understand.

My apologies to anyone that is unhappy with this design, and I hope you are able to get everything straightened out.

^ I absolutely love the way mine turned out.
And mine is pretty funky around the underarms and seams, but I'm not going to go walking around waving my arms up in the air - all the time. Plus, I wore it to the movies yesterday and not one of the people I was with noticed, I even pointed it out and they were like it just makes it more yours.
It's still awesome.

Shit. God forbid a t-shirt where the whole concept is that the black ink is being wiped away should be missing some black ink.

I wonder if it would have looked better white ink on black? The imperfections would have looked more like residue left behind after the pass of the squeegee rather than being on the as-yet-unsqueegeed black bit.

Anyway, regardless of anyone's opinion on the shirt, I hope everyone can appreciate some stuff about all this:

Two of the most important people at Threadless responded to your complaint directly. The guys from the cover of Inc magazine. The founder of all this goodness himself. In spite of the fact that this ain't no service forum and your concerns should have been directed to customer service and I'm sure they'd have been happy to refund you, two senior staff members dealt with the problems directly. And they fixed them.

Jeffrey said in that article, "If someone changes something on Facebook, there's no expectation that some random 14-year-old from the middle of Idaho is going to be able to get in touch with Mark Zuckerberg, on Threadless, if people see something they don't like and want to talk to Jake, they get Jake."

Some people had some problems, and they responded. They can't go back and change history, all they can do is fix what's been wrong and they have.

If you're not happy with the shirt, return it for a refund. Don't be unhappy with Threadless, they've done really well here.

squatter, you couldnt do white on black..then it would look like you were at a bukkake party or something.

But yes I agree that it is wonderful that customer service is a top priority and we are assured our voices are at least heard. You can't really ask for anything better.

But doesn't imperfect imply that in only happened to a subset of the shirts? I just bought two of these (one for a friend) and they both have the same 'imperfections' and one is even worse than the other. It mostly looks like the shirt wasn't ironed and none of the black went into the creases. Is ironing shirts before they are printed really asking too much? The shirt on the main page is in much better condition that the two I own. I like it so much I will probably go get fabric paint and fix it up.

when designing stay away from the neck or armpit seams. cool good to know.

Mine arrived today. Ordered the day it came out (so before the "disclaimer") but it had to come all the way to Australia.

The print on the front is absolutely perfect, not a single speck out of place. The back is not perfect, some ink didn't get in around the sleeve seam which might have bothered me had it been on the front. There's a few white spots under the arm pit. Around the neck there's sort of an arc equivalent to where the neckline is at the front.

Overall I'm happy with mine. I was more worried all this time it really was going to come out looking like a penis.

It does not look like a penis, btw.

bitching is completely justified. i got the same problem. the worst part is, it's the coverage that MAKES this shirt. i'm beginning to seriously question quality control AND the competency of threadless' planning. this sort of thing shouldn't happen. if it does, DON'T SELL THE SHIRT.

p.s.
i highly suspect the people that LIKE these "imperfections" are the same kind of people that shower every 4th day and know how to recite the team rocket greeting in japanese. O-TA-KU.

i bought this.

i am very very disappointed and will never wear this out.

the product photo page should actually show the neck and armpit area in full detail. see how many people buy the shirt then.

Got mine a short while ago. Lots of imperfections, but I don't mind those too much. However, mine came out really big for the supposed size. Has this happened to anyone else?

I am actually dissapointed about the "imperfections" myself. I received this shirt last night, after about three weeks of delivery (I opted for cheaper, slower delivery). I ordered the shirt before the notice was posted.

I am slowly trying to decide if I'm ok with the little things. I do however need to have the shirt changed because my shirt has MAJOR imperfections (pictures later) that seem to be caused by the belt printing process.

Now, I'm okay with the minor imperfections, I'm just a bit dissapointed that the shirt got shipped with the very obvious, major imperfection.

Here's a short description of what I assume happened to my shirt:

It seems that the lower part of the shirt got folded over on top of the shirt and the got passed into the belt printer, as such, about a third of the print, including the shaft/handle of the squeegee is printed on the INSIDE of the shirt, as that piece of cloth was folded over. As a result, the lower part of the shirt has no design on it, as the missing design is printed on the inside.

Kinda miffed, but hey, I know I can trust the customer service.

Kepp up the good work, guys, as this is the first time I got a crappy shirt after many, many orders!

:-)
