Looks like RATM are winning at the moment to be Xmas No 1 - any other Cowell haters out there?

It's doing really well! Plus it's only 29p on amazon and they count towards the single charts!

I already have it, but I'll be buying it again from Amazon for the cause - I just love the idea that they'll have to play Killing In The Name Of on Christmas day. What an awesome tune in any

case. Is this pop eating itself?

It's the number 1 tune on iTunes even though it's 99p there. The X Factor one is in second. Pretty sure the tabloids will have fun with this.

Meh. What's the point of this really? They're all signed to the same label. I wouldn't be surprised if Sony Music orchestrated the whole thing.

I think its funny that he had to release a song previously released by Miley Cyrus as his first single.

At 29p a download Sony music won't be getting rich off it, and I am pretty sure they would prefer to see The X Factor song win to increase the artist's longevity.

Despite Sony indirectly 'owning' both of the labels both acts are signed to, it is definitely a valid form of protest. Although it apparently all could be in vain once CD sales kick in. Come on the Rage.

i'm conflicted.

on one hand, it's a mildly amusing media prank.

on the other hand, the primary motivations seem to be pettiness & spite, and the supposed "protest" single is a 17-year-old song by a major-label band that i've heard on corporate rock radio many times. so as an attempt at subversion, it fails.

now, if the christmas single were something like this, i could get behind it:

the 29p songs don't count as a proper download! I think you have to spend over a certain amount to ensure the download is counted as a valid sale....besides, all of ROTM's profits are going to charity, and all of the XFactor song profits are going to Simon Cowell.
