I was just reminiscing about my guitar begginings, I remember the good old days when i hated everything that came out form my guitar's hole (acoustic, you pervs) and everytime i played something i just wanted to break the shit out of it, and how my fingertips hurt at the very beggining, and how excited i would get everytime i could play something that sounded like a real song

Now after 6 years of playing i'm supposed to sound good and i don't get as much excitement, damn pressure and growing up

Share your own musical memories if you please, i demand it!

This was my first complete song

Hmm, when I first started trumpet, I wasn't really sure what to expect. I did think it was amazing having a spit valve though.

As for my guitar, I originally wanted to learn mandolin but I couldn't find one so my parents bought me a guitar. But even then, I didn't actually learn to play guitar until last year because my RA and a few other dormmates were pretty amazing guitarists and I thought I would make use of my resources.

I pretty much spent several months playing the same two chord progressions until I finally learned a Yellowcard song (lame, I know).

i've always been drawn to play mandolin, but i've never had one either, i just tried one once in a music store but the frets were so damn small, it's hard to get used to them in 5 minutes

and i've never been too attracted to play wind instruments (are they called that in english too?), i remember hating flute class in elementary school, even though i do enjoy listening to them

and i probably don't have the lungs to play trumpet, is it as hard as the sax?

My friend actually dug out his grandfather's old mandolin. It was missing the two bottom strings but it was interesting. The frets were really small and the strings were thin enough to cut through the skin.

Trumpet is hard in that there are only three valves so a lot of the pitch comes from embouchure and air control. We struggle to play two octaves when a sax or flute could play three or four octaves with ease.

I tortured a Violin every Saturday for 2 years between the ages of about 8 and 10. I didn't want to give up but I didn't want to practice. In the end the music teacher took my dad aside and told him he was wasting his money.

I played viola in middle school. It was fun times, but I stopped in high school because I knew I didn't want to pursue it any further. Now my brother plays viola.
I have an old acoustic from when I wanted to learn guitar. I took a personal lesson once, but I found that guitar playing wasn't really meant for me.
I've also taken taiko (Japanese drums) class. That was fun. :)

After all this I've realized I'm not meant for playing music, but listening and enjoying it instead. :D

I ain't got no rhythm and you need that for drums more than anything else. That guy is amazing. I once helped out at a day centre for youngsters with learning disabilities. The instructor had everyone in a semi-circle and getting the kids to beat out simple rhythms with basic instruments or clapping. I was the only one who couldn't keep time. I had all these kids with down syndrome completely showing me up. The instructor got really pissed at me because they thought I was doing it on purpose. One of those moments where you want the ground to swallow you up.

I think I definately had Dyspraxia as a kid - difficulty in performing co-ordinated movements. perhaps your friend has the same thing.

I started playing piano when I was 5 because my grandmother made me. When I was 7, I started taking drum lessons. Along the way I picked up organ, flute, clarinet, guitar and sax. I remember how much I sucked at guitar when I first started. It took me a while to get the hang of it.

I start college this fall and I'm majoring in Music Ed. So I'm really excited to learn new instruments. I have always wanted to play the mandolin too, Alvin. : )
