I still handt break the 2.5 barrier but still this is my best score so far, and i've got to say i'm pleased, i wasnt even sure this would score over a 2, i'd love this to print but i dont think i'm that lucky

Either way i wanna thank everyone who voted and supported this design, you rock!!!

Is that the pi symbol?

I like the eye of the fish.

Oh man, I been hoodwinked, you didn't draw this for me!

I like the fish with the power button eye, wait, so is the computer dead and does the fountain pen now reign supreme? Is it something about the battles between new and old technology?
againstbound
   againstbound on Mar 30 '08 at 9:26pm
tobasco-yep, pi all over

vic- sorry, but ill draw something for you sometime, wen you least expect it

and no, it doesnt mean anything, at least nothing that i'm aware of, i just hadnt drawn anything random in a while, i just let my hand go unsupervised
V1ctorya
V1ctorya on Mar 30 '08 at 9:28pm
Then your hand is telling you things, like to kill the computer and use the pen more often cause that's totally a fountain pen.

I'll start least suspecting things right away though :)

And I do really like the fishy, texture and stuff.

thanks pizazz =D, as i said colors arent final, after i finish the illustration i'll have to see what colors work best with it

and now that i see it like this i'm wondering if i should color it further, im liking the all white fish, maybe cause i'm a sucker for solid colors, what does everyone else think?

I like the colours. But I don't know if there's enough happening on the shirt itself.

Could you have a school of fish swimming behind perhaps?
againstbound

thanks maltz, so do i

thanks basco, not sure about the fish school since it would suggest an underwater environment and this guys home, back from fishing (i think), but you might be right that it needs something more, guess i'll have to sleep on it and see what i come up with tomorrow, cheers man

I like the colour on the fish. But I also don't mind the just white version.

What about him living in a hut which is behind him. With more fish hanging up. That could make it too busy though.

IDK, there's just something missing is all. And I can't put my finger on it.

Againstbound: I think that the background Pi's are net needed, and do not contribute to your supremely random design! As always No to purple and a BIG YES to brown!
berrynoir
berrynoir on Apr 04 '08 at 5:46am
I think the brown and purple are two awesome choices and I would go with both - that way, you please the brown hating folks and the "I'm a guy and I don't wear purple people", besides, they both look great. Beyond that, you're never gonna please everyone. This looks great and I agree that the background Pi isn't needed. I'll write a little more when it's subbed, but I really like the idea of the mathematical symbols juxtaposed with the fish because "schools of fish" are usually symbolic of infinite numbers.
V1ctorya

that fish is teh awesome!

Brown, prolly w/out the PI in the background.

thansk! =D

seems i'm th only one that likes the pattern, i already figured out a way of making it more dynamic, i'll show it whne it's done and if still no one likes it it'll be sans pattern all the way

and yeah, brown this time around with the purple option

Your illustration is very distinct and extremely eye catching. However, after the viewer is through poring over it, he/she is bound to feel somewhat resentful for having been coerced into trying to solve the unsolvable. Meaning, if your intent is to frustrate the viewer, this design is sure to do it.

That’s not to say designs can’t succeed without a meaningful resolution, it’s to say that your design, (filled with recognizable symbols), falsely implies that there is one. Essentially you’re enticing the viewer to look for meaning when you know, (“no, it doesn’t mean anything, at least nothing that I'm aware of”), that they’ll utterly fail to find one. Yours is a heartless sub and you should be damned to eternal limbo, (not the Trinidad ritual dance performed at wakes), that clueless place between heaven and hell.

However, you could rationalize that π, (to mathematicians at least), is readily understood to be an irrational number. So its prominent use in the illustration somewhat supports the idea of a design that has no logical or meaningful connection to anything. Of course no one will ever get that but it might sound good as an opening remark when you sub. :P

I prefer the purple with the pi pattern without the {/}, (not the belt print pattern, it won't work if you want the rest of the design to register), and I would suggest you add a shadow to where the alien's body meets the fish.

Lastly, good luck and enjoy the rejection. Cheers!

Wow Quister, I like your comments.

AgainstBound: I somehow do like the Pi's in the background when you had some highlighted. do you think That you could do one with smaller Pi's and more of them but not as a belt print but more along the lines of a halftone shadow. The Black Guy/Alien/Tribal Warrior/.............. *fill in blank* figure needs to be more 3D as he seems flat in comparison to his pen and fish.

I'm liking this design more and more!

olie and quister-i am very aware of what you say, and i'm sure it will affect my score, but i needed to do something like this, hadnt in a while; and i really enjoyed working on it and am pretty satisfied with how it turned out, so even if i get a low score it's ok, there's always a next time =)

gnome-thats what i was going to, the 2d character contrasting with the detailed fish and harpoon, but perhaps i'll try some highlights and see how it looks, thanks again =)

I never believed sanity would keep you from submitting.

Anyway, if you decide to add dimension to pi man, you might add a shadow to the fish where the alien's body touches it as noted above. You might also look at extending his right arm up a bit more so it's more evident that he's holding the fish. One last thing, the negative shape caused by the intersection of the alien's crotch with the bottom fin is a bit odd/distracting, maybe make the fin bigger? Cheers!
