...but I don't get why this would be printed.

Scan a thousand Jr. High School kids notebooks. Collect scribblings at random. Hand off scribblings to a thousand kids dodging kindergarten class. Give said kids handfuls of free crayons (the kind handed out at a thousand family restaurants around the country). Wait ten minutes. Throwout at random 2/3 of the results (just to be mean). Take the rest, give them to the poor blind kid who didn't get to play. Have him pick his favorites by smell and pass them on to the least cleverest of apes at the clever ape school. Allow ape to put together the drawings however he sees fit. Throw out results. Give ape a job at Threadless. Give him some crayons and have them design their version of a $26 shirt. Fire the poor ape cause you've already got too many goofs on the payroll. Print the shirt. Make $13 when shirt is marked down to clearance. Destroy remainder of shirts in burn barrel.

Am I close?

I like this design, mostly because of the colors.

But let it be noted, i HATE those free crayons they give out at restaurants. grr

i would pay just as much money if this design had been made through the process you just made up then if it was made by the designer.
it just looks good, is cheerful, makes me feel super fucking happy. i don't understand all the commotion this shirt as well as every other select shirt causes anytime some dozen individuals 'don't get it'.
there's nothing to get! if it's not your style/preference don't buy it! it's obviously been printed because it and the designer has merit/does good work, and whether or not you believe so people are buying it because they genuinely LIKE IT.

i thought it was votes? in which case the answer to your question is "because it's popular"

and maybe your question is really "i don't get why people like this", the answer to which is "de gustibus non est disputandum" ...

Seriously though, it's not good.
jacasimov
jacasimov on May 14 '08 at 7:54pm
shobattack: actually, it just sort of wrote itself. Maybe you're just reading it slow so it seems like a lot of time was spent on it. Maybe?

I'd suggest pushing yourself a bit harder in school. Maybe pick up some of what the 6th graders are reading. Just really push yourself. I'd be willing to bet the results will pleasantly surprise you and you'll be reading faster and comprehending more in no time. Good luck with that!

This shirt is flippin awesome. If only I had $26.
Have you ever seen the famous, popular art that people pay big money to have that looks like somebody took a bucket of paint and splattered it all over the canvas? If you think about it, most modern artistry is very oblique and spontaneous. You must not have any real taste for art because REAL art is a form of imaginative expression, creating NEW ideas instead of the obvious and mainstream.
In other words, you suck, your idea of art is way off and you probably have been spoon fed popular ideas without thinking outside of the box.
Sorry, but it's true.

anatesap: and you're a fartbubble who thinks like an 8th grader. That argument is so flippin tired and worn out. Art is in the eye of the beholder. And I'm beholding "not art" but a shirt design. One I don't care for.

More power to the artist to create and follow his/her dreams. I don't care for it, personally, as is my right. (also well within my rights: commentary)

And how dare you question my interpretation of this "piece", you closed-minded tool. Cad. Blackguard. Nincompoop. Get $26, let's see how you spend it. Then we'll talk.

And finally, notice how many people are currently speaking with their wallet and not buying it. Seems like a lot.

Why do people who take the time to poo-poo a design always bring up the "lack of sales"? It's obvious that the sales are an equation they have no way to find the variables. Even the incredible shirts take months to sell out entirely, and there are very few that sell out completely in a single size within under 2 weeks, and that's the only way to tell if it's "selling well", if it's sold out in a size or two... right? Is this how you've collected your data?

If you're going to continue this practice, pretend it's like 8th grade algebra (I only make this metaphor because jacasimov seems fond of grade school metaphors) show your work or you only get half points on your test.

I agree that you get your opinion, just stick to that in the future though.

Papaprime: you may address me in person if you like - after all you are responding to my comment. No need to tiptoe around.

And see, Papaprime, still plenty of inventory on this shirt, even after a markdown. Incredible shirts certainly sell out in less than a couple of months. Besides, define incredible. How do you collect your data? Here in 8th grade, we base our hypothesis on simple observable data. No sales = not much interest in design by t-shirt buying public. Don't worry, they'll teach you these formulations next year - providing you don't get held back...again.

Keep "making" those metaphors, my son. You're brilliant at 'em!

PS I've already been told that I suck, that my pants smell, my head is made of excrement, and basically to die, do you really think you have anything else illuminating to offer here?
Papaprime
   Papaprime on Jun 10 '08 at 12:46am
As a run of the mill internet troll, you consider yourself quite witty and you relish being able to put together point by point responses with snappy comebacks and a healthy dose of patting yourself on the back.

This information is in no way "illuminating", especially to you. And that's just the most pathetic thing ever, that someone would choose to act like that.

Jon ... Burgerman

Some of you people have no idea who that is right? Obviously not, he is probably one of the people that developed this style and he is a well respected and genuine guy. I'm not sure if he does this anymore but he responded to all me emails back in the day, he may be too busy now fighting off ass hats and spam to do that now but... seriously... it's fucking Jon Burgerman, get a god damned clue

such a shame

and beaver circus, best title ever! I just wish it was printed on a more lively color like purple or plum or fondue

Jon Burgerman ppl, don't you know anything.... sad sad sad

Papaprime: and just how many times have you copied and pasted that exact phrase on the internet? I suspect dozens. And I bet you didn't even write it. Try not boring me so much.

Robsoul: I disagree. I don't like it. Maybe I'd like other works by him I don't know. I try not to worship the artist unconditionally but rather based on the work. What is his "style" BTW? I was doing similar stuff in junior high and even I didn't like it. And... just what do you know about what I know or do not know?

J-Ray: Looks like you're going to need a bigger bank account. PS Are you threatening me, you twat?

it was a select. that's why it was printed. it might be not so great because any of the following:
1. The artist was trying something new
2. The artist was feeling a lot of pressure having to provide a t shirt that would get printed
3. It's just not your cup of tea

It would be a lot of pressure to be selected for a select

iDanSimpson: and welcome really fcking late to the party. Try a GPS, lame.

EricDiaz: Wear it often so I know who not to talk to at the party. Seriously, though, you should buy one.

bobobob: I agree with you on #1, #2, and #3 completely. Just wondering where taste went, that's all. This notion evidently riles people.

And J-ray: I didn't notice...you said "change" money for tickets! Ha! How utterly Canadian of you. Here in America we "charge" people for tickets. And we punch in the throat so as not to destroy a fellow American's innate beauty. twat face.

Oh my lord, I just googled burgerman and he is still drawing like a junior high schooler. Now I get why you guys love him so much! You thinks he's your peer! That's rich. You should get him to sign your yearbook and draw another squiggle of a rabbitbeardog or whatever.

hah, like you go to the same parties i do. I won a logo design contest and as one of the prizes i got to choose any shirt and i chose this one.

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean you should act like an asshole. That's not cool.
