Another thread got me to thinking about hand me downs...... Do people still do hand me downs? I got heaps of hand me downs growing up.

I was small for my age so hand me downs came not only from elder cousins/family friends but even my same aged cousin. I don't remember it bothering me. It was just the done thing. By the same token I don't remember eyeing off outfits on the wearer thinking *grow, grow* so I could score it.

Some dresses or outfits I got in two colours because once upon a time mothers dressed sisters samey but diff colour schemes. Thankfully seems not as prevalent these days
(or is it?)

Go on .... post ya pix. You know you have some scanned.

Not really.

Now I wish I got a lot of my mom's clothes, but she got rid of them all, I do have one shirt of hers. It's a girl scouts shirt that says "Scouting is my bag" on the back and there's a backpack drawn on the back of the shirt.

I only have a sister. We don't really share the same taste in clothing... or gender.

Hand me downs: Zero.
Consumerism: One. (perhaps should be: won!)

I'm totally using a hand me down gown for graduation. It beats spending over $30 on a new one.

I have a lot. I get a lot of my brother's and my dad's old clothes. My favorite and most-worn hand-me-downs is one of my dad's old blazers.

My sisters and I kind of trade clothing. One of us will get bored with something and then one of the others will borrow it forever . . . and then we'll notice it in the closet and swipe it back years later. So I'm not sure if it's a hand-me down or if it would considered long term sharing.
With my kids a lot of their play clothes end up being hand-me downs. Then I don't have to freak out when they stain it.

whenever i go through my closet and get rid of clothes i offer them to my friends first. I gave the girl who had the baby a huge bag of clothes that i dont wear anymore to split w. her step daughter

when i was younger, it was all hand-me-downs, but now that we're older, we sort of trade clothing now

Yeah, as a kid it is a hand-me-down. As adult humans it is 'trading' or 'first dibs'.

I got my brother's hand me downs growing up, hated it as, well, not the same gender as him. But we was poor officer, we was poor.

Now I put my clothes up on Craigslist if my friends don't want them (those who could fit them) though sometimes my closets do get raided by friends anyway. But craigslist is nice, people at least TELL me they need them and aren't selling them off elsewhere.
